David Koechner Talks Anchorman 2

David Koechnerdiscusses his disappointment about the sequel
One of the funniest and most beloved comedies of recent years is Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. The movie's popularity has taken on a life of its own in the last few years and many fans were disappointed when they heard that the studio turned down a proposal to make a sequel. The movie's director Adam McKay and star, Will Ferrell pitched an idea for Anchorman 2 and they still passed, even after Ferrell offered to take a pay cut along with the films other leads, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. In addition to the disappointed fans, another person that was devastated to hear the news was actor/comedian David Koechner. Koechner, of course, is best known for his role as whacky sportscaster Champion "Champ" Kind in the film. We recently had an opportunity to sit down and speak with David Koechner, and we asked the hilarious actor if he is disappointed that the sequel does not look like it is going to happen?

"Yeah, that is a shame isn't it? I'm still hopeful."

We followed up by asking Koechner if he would definitely return if the sequel suddenly got a green light from the studio?

"Of course, anyone would. It was so much fun, and it was amazing. That was an incredible film. I'll tell you what, on that one we knew something special was happening and we didn't want to say it. We didn't want to jinx it but we all knew about half way through that it was uncommonly good. It was the best thing I ever worked on. The chemistry was working, everyone knew what was expected and everyone was knocking it out of the park. The atmosphere that Adam and Will created, the freedom, the beautifully detailed characters and everything was so funny. We improvised a lot but we couldn't beat the script. I hope they still do it. I don't get what the hang up is. They say that there won't be any foreign sales so they don't want to do it, which is what I heard. Who cares? It's still going to make like $150 million, is that not enough? From my understanding the budget wasn't going to be outrageous. So I don't get those economics."

Anchorman: The Legend Continues comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Will Ferrell, David Koechner, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell. The film is directed by Adam McKay.

@nathan-lease I'm quite hetero, sir, I assure you. The last movie Ferrell did that I thought was worth a crap was Talladega Nights. But I've been called worse for not liking a bad movie that others liked, so :P

Anchorman wasn't the best, but it had it's moments. This article doesn't really say much except for Koechner's opinions, though.
