"It's not exactly a reboot," said Goyer. "I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What Casino Royale was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider."
Goyer also spoke to the timeline of the new film as well.
"This story picks up eight years after the first film," said Goyer. "You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later-he's just in a much darker, existential place."
The film was said to start shooting sometime next year.
Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance comes to theaters February 17th, 2012 and stars Nicolas Cage, Idris Elba, Johnny Whitworth, CiarĂ¡n Hinds, Violante Placido. The film is directed by Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor.

I don't read Comic Books so i don't know much about Ghost Rider but i did watch the movie and i'm not gonna go into detail about how it wasn't good because as Chad Vital mentioned "Duh". But am i the only one who just CAN'T see Nicolas Cage as the "badass" ?!

WTF OK I can see how the Ghost Rider story can continue, since there is such a strewn-out timeline from the comics. But did we seriously need another one with Cage still the Rider? I'm all for Cage as Blaze, just not Cage as Blaze the Ghost Rider. And Cage eating jelly beans out of a martini glass because he "doesn't like the character from the comics who drinks all the time." Take your sh*tty morals and gtfo, Cage. YOU ARE IN A COMIC BOOK FILM! But enough with that, like Chad says, everybody already know this sh*t, so moving past this, I am definitely glad they are making GR2 darker, because the books were always dark, never light in tone. My whole thought process about this is, the mantle needs to be passed over to Danny Ketch. Yes I love Blaze from the books but he was never a jelly-bean-eatin' pretty boy, sorry. Not after he grew up, anyway. He was a rugged badass with a hellfire gun and a chip on his shoulder. If Cage can pull that off in this one, since it is eight years later, and darker in tone, great. That would be awesome. If they plan on making a trilogy, then Ketch is a no-brainer. And if that is the case (trilogy), then I foresee Ketch being introduced near the end of GR2, as Blaze's long lost brother.

Why is it than when there's a sequel of a film that wasn't as good as people wanted it to be, some of the people who comment say how much the last movie sucked or didn't live up to the hype. As if we didn't know this information already lol. We know it was disapointing, you don't need to keep telling us. I hate when people do that, especially when it's about a movie like Spiderman 3. We f*cking know! lol. Jesus. Like their opinion is law and now that they finally posted their opinion about it, we should be like "oh this random guy said it sucked so now officially it does" lol. "I'm so glad we got confirmation now".

It's just that if he does pass the torch, we get less Cage.

Why would be pass the torch he's not that old lol. Even if we wanted him to it'd be silly. But I like what I hear thus far.

I am glad Goyer is on this, and will do it justice. Yeah, kill Johnson, and if it is really that important to the writers and the studio to include Cage, have him be a mentor to Ketch.

They should not have Nic Cage associated with the next installment. His acting was pretty horrible in the first film. If he has to be in it then have him pass the torch. Start fresh.

Danny Ketch!!!
I wouldn't mind Cage as Blaze in a mentor role, so long as they keep Mark Steven Johnson the f*ck away from this project.
