David Goyer Is Ready to Revamp Ghost Rider

David Goyer is in early talks to create a second Ghost Rider film. He is currently in the early stages of creating a story, and will supervise a team of writers on the final script. According to Variety, even though this is being considered a re-boot of the series, Ghost Rider 2 will once again star Nicolas Cage in the lead role.

At this time, Goyer still hasn't officially signed onto the project. The plan is for Goyer to base his story on a Ghost Rider
script that was written years ago by the director. This new film will be produced by former Marvel president Avi Arad, Michael De Luca and Steven Paul, with Gary Foster on as an executive producer. There is no word on whether Goyer himself will direct the rebooted sequel.

Though the film doesn't have a set start date, it is likely that we won't see Ghost Rider 2 until sometime in 2011.

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance comes to theaters February 17th, 2012 and stars Nicolas Cage, Violante Placido, CiarĂ¡n Hinds, Idris Elba, Johnny Whitworth, Fergus Riordan, Spencer Wilding, Sorin Tofan. The film is directed by Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor.

Todd, yeah we most likely won't get what we want. But I think David could make a good storyline for this character. He will make it darker, and make Blaze more of a bad-ass.

Comrade. Robert Downey Jr. could make a good doctor strange, but I don't know that he would play another comic book character. Man, I can't really think of a good actor to play Strange right now

You won't get what you all want. None of them give a damn of what any of us think, David and company would do something else all together.
There is only one question: Will it be watchable?

I agree with Ketch, Have Cage have a smaller role passing the torch on to Ketch. I love Ghost Rider's Character, they need to get someone who can do it right. And I am a big Doctor Strange fan, a cameo would be awesome. But who would play Doctor Strange in the cameo?

And, yes JB, Strange may not have the fanboy following for a solo film, but like you said, a cameo in GR2 would be a proper setup. The only reason I even mentioned a film about him is because I heard earlier in the year that MARVEL was planning one. Now I'm not so sure what their plans are considering the Disney buy-out.

Padalecki is from Supernatural and also played the brother on the new F-13 movie that was looking for his sis who was being kept alive and chained up by Jason. He's got okay acting cred, but I guarantee he would do a Danny Ketch GR film better justice than Nic Cage did the Johnny Blaze GR film.

As for those other actors, Welling and Craig, well I think they are both typecast and since Smallville is still on the air and Bond 23 is (is it still?) on the way, I don't think they would be the right fit. For Ketch, I almost think a "nobody" no-name actor will make for a better fit. And, with Ketch back in the comics ("Ghost Rider: Danny Ketch" and "Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire" - seriously check out this last one!), now would be the perfect opportunity to bring Ketch to life on the big screen. He is Blaze's brother after all, so no doubt Cage would have a cameo, even a Rider cameo, which would all be fine with me if it meant passing the torch down to Ketch, and even possibly showing the two brothers as Ghost Riders.

    Oh, the possibilities....

You need somebody darker to begin with. If he didn't look so damn young (not that GR shouldn't be young, just not this young) I'd say Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but he also doesn't really have the voice for it.

    Lol, or Daniel Craig.

Dr.S dosent have the fanbase as most of the marvel movie allumni, although a cameo in Ghost rider could get the wheels turning. as 4 Jared never heard of him webs but your right he does have the look, but not sure if he has the abilities to play GR. how bout Tom Welling? sure he's a bit old but hey at least he has the superhero thing on his resume.

I want a Dr. Strange movie, but not if it has ANYTHING to do with Nic Cage whatsoever.

  21. CBF

You're right Comrade. As for Volchek playing Ketch, ehhh.... sorry but no. Now Blaze... okay I agree he could pull off a younger Blaze. But not the Blaze from the Ketch comics. It would have to be flashbacks of that guy, when he was younger, like in the first 10 minutes of the Nic Cage "Ghost Rider" movie. BTW I think that kid played a better Blaze than Cage. Figure that!

And JB as for a good actor to play Ketch? Hmmm... I've thought a lot about this, and I want someone true to Ketch's image. This first opinion comes straight from a Google Image search......Jared Padalecki. OK now before all the hate mail comes in just remember I'm not basing that off his acting abilities, which I don't know too much about, just Friday the 13th 2009, but his facial image which to me, is a great interpretation of Ketch.

Also, I feel Dr. Strange would surely have room for a story-driven cameo, as he sometimes did in the 90's books, and this would also set up for the "Dr. Strange" movie.

    Well?

  22. -comrade-

    Don't blame it on me.

Anyway... as a fan of the comics, though primarily the Daniel Ketch ones, I'd say that Ghost Rider was a decent film right up to the moment Nic Cage shows up on screen. After that, it's one long crash down a poorly constructed ramp. Forgive the blatant imagery.

And yes, I made reference to Gigandet playing both Ketch and Blaze on purpose, simply because there has really never been a distinguished character representation of either except that Blaze is usually blonde and Ketch is usually a brunette.

    2 years agoby @taberjohnson18Flag

  25. -comrade-

    word*

Gigandet would have to do some coke first to play a good Ketch. Ghost Rider was always a good character because of how edgy he was, how he had to live with the fact that he had something unholy inside of him that he tried to use for good. But, if he took the role seriously (and I won't hate the guy automatically, even though he was in Twilight) I think he could probably do something decent with it. He'd probably be able to pull off Blaze no problem.

Vanboy's just about pissed himself with excitement. What happened to being too civilized to use words like that? I'd hate it if your little girls saw you resorting to using that kind of language.

  29. CBF

Thing is, JB, that in a Daniel Ketch story, Blaze is no longer a pretty boy type, eating jellybeans out of a martini glass and listening to Journey - whatever the hell that was - totally one of Cage's horrible ideas for the film, but nah, he's a gruff, street personality, with long-ass hair, unshaven, shades, sporting a trenchcoat and a huge hellfire gun that obliterates spirits.

Sorry, but a role like that - I would not think twice about NOT casting Cage in.

  30. The First Avenger: JohnnyBlaze

agreed Comrade he is a bit too old for this role. CBF's idea of the Danny Ketch's storyline would make sence in a reboot hell we could even have Cage cameo as Blaze jus so he's happy. But who to play Ketch? Adrian Brody? jk Comrade hahahaha how bout Cam Gigandet?
