David Gordon Green is a weird dude. The type of weird dude that wants a big screen adaptation of Little House on the Prairie resting up against Your Highness and Suspiria on his resume.

The director is taking the helm of this Western, based on the popular novel series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which was turned into one of the most popular television series of the 70s. Abi Morgan is writing the screenplay.

The original book series was written between 1932 and 1943, and followed a farm family in the late 19th Century American West. Though it was a family show, it often dealt with dark subject matter, like blindness, devastating fires, and prairie rape. It actually sounds right up David Gordon Green's alley. Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Pa Ingalls, anyone? (We know they can never fill Michael Landon's shoes!)

Little House on the Prairie comes to theaters in 2015. The film is directed by David Gordon Green.
