"That book doesn't close until somebody dies, really. One of the greatnesses of the show was its open-endedness. It was about possibility. It wasn't about closure. It just couldn't be. There is no such thing as that story ever ending. Those characters are forever searching. That's what they do. Even if we're not watching them, they're out there, in some dimension. Mulder and Scully are still doing their thing 'cause that's their nature.
I would love to do another film, or more. I think we're all game for it. I know I'm kind of perplexed that Fox isn't more [enthusiastic]. Here's a homegrown property that you don't have to go buy, like fuckin' Green Lantern or something, to make it. Here you've got an actual action franchise that's your own. It's weird to me, but I'm not an executive. I don't know if they made the Green Lantern either, but I'm just using that as an example of, "Why make that film? Why not make a homegrown franchise that is excellent, and that has proven to be excellent and interesting?" I don't get it, but that's not my business.
I think Chris Carter is probably working on an idea, so we'll see. Unfortunately, with the last one, they didn't spend the money to compete in a summer fashion, and they brought it out in the summer. It should be a summer film. It should be an action film. But, the last one we made was not. The last one we made was a dark, contemplative, small $25 million film. It was basically an independent film. When you come out against Batman, it's not going to happen. You're not going to be sold as an independent film, and you're not going to compete against Batman with $25 million. "

The actor will be seen next in Christopher Neil's indie comedy Goats. As for those rumors about Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) dating in real-life? Well, only time will tell if those pan out to be true.
The X-Files 3 is in development and stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson.

Fans need a Third Movie worth watching, Like others have said make it grounded and follow the shows story line. With more money and and great script many will come to see this movie. I did not like the last movie for many reason so i hope this movie (if it gets done) is lightyears better, Fringe willl not be possible if it wasn't for X-files

Carter blew it when he decided to make "i want to believe" about a pedophile priest with telepathic powers. Instead of wrapping up the franchise with the 2012 invasion and explaining what happened to Agent Dogget and Agent Reyes.

If no one wants to then I'll do it and I'll have both of them act as producers as well, Carter or not.
I may not be in the union but I'm willing to make it for them, 75 million with Fox emerging with Alliance.

@cupid The second one isn't worth your time.
To the X-Files fans, I'm kinda peeved as a Phile (fan) since DD has come out saying he's still down for XF3 but doesn't know what's up. 1-2 years ago we were getting the same treatment here. We were told the studio was waiting on a script from Carter & Spotnitz but I guess they lied about that. XF3? More like WTF. Sick of this same news over and over again.

Sounds like Duchovny's as fed up as I am. We all know David's on board for XF3, he's been saying it for 4 years. Gillian's there with him. The problem is with Carter, Spotnitz, and Fox. Spotnitz says he's on board, but then doesn't deliver a script. Carter says it's a possibility, but then doesn't move forward either. And Fox says they're waiting to greenlight the film, but doesn't push for it to happen at all. Way to f*ckin' go, guys. David & Gillian, you are awesome but your XF crew f*cking sucks balls.

@skywise I'm glad I'm not alone on this... I did not think it was a good MOVIE... It was very lacking... and because it was a film, I did not enjoy it very much

@zender The last film was decent enough but it just felt like a 2 hour TV special for the series. Which is to say it would have worked perfectly in the series but was a bit lackluster for a movie.

Anyways, I don't want to get my hopes up. We've been down this road. Numerous times. When it goes into production, I'll believe it. But you keep fighting the good fight, David D.

In my mind X files was the best show on TV period. I didnt like the last movie but i hope they make an effort to tap into the roots of the series to really give us a great movie.

I would really love to see a 3rd film with real continuity that might tie in to the first 2 films in some ways.
I know the first film had its continuity in the tv show but they can make it happen.
@zender I agree that J.J. Abrams would be perfect for this but I dont think that will happen.

X-files never lost me, been a true fan of it and David's right.
Fringe, well I was closed minded about it for so long so I picked up season one and I'm watching it. Worth the buy and I'm hooked
Lost had me until they moved the island.
X-files and Cringe are basically the same style show, Fox fears continuity and want to wash their hands from it. Very few directors could make the third film and I believe that J.J Adrams could be that man, Chris Carter has lost his spark for X-files.

He's so right about everything he said. Fox has one of the greatest original franchises of all time, and they're just letting it die off. I've noticed Fox does that a lot lately, just throws a minimal investment in their franchises and waits to see if audiences bite in.
@ahraman Glad you're liking it so far. In case you didn't know, each season has about 5 episodes which specifically follow the main story arc (they're referred to as the "mythology" episodes) and go throughout all 9 seasons and the first movie. The rest of the episodes (and second movie are stand-alone "monster of the week" type of episodes.
I really liked Fringe at least up until season 3 (after Lost ended I've had trouble committing to any TV show over 3 seasons long, fearing the same disappointment), but I might pick it up again.

I've just started watching this show, having never seen any episodes before. I'm now coming to the end of season 1 and while i've enjoyed it so far the story lines have felt a bit too case-of-the-week sometimes. And surely there's only so many times Scully can give Maulder the "you want to believe to much" speech.
I'm a big fan of Fringe which has managed to build up an intricate and compelling mythology as well as maintain accessible episodes. Hope to see the same thing here going forward.

I want them to do a 3rd X-Files but like Duchovny said spend the money and write a good script, and give the loyal and people who are not fans of the show and first movie what they want. Most people love a good sci-fi alien conspiracy movie.
