David Duchovny Says The X-Files 3 Is Coming!

The x-Files 3 is being written
The x-Files 3 is being written
David Duchovny recently talked with TVmag (via Xfilesnews.com), and despite The X-Files: I Want to Believe tanking at the box office, the actor claims that a script for The X-Files 3 is currently being written. The sequel is coming, though the production is awaiting a green light from 20th Century Fox, who is a little hesitant about moving forward on the project due to the underperformance of the last installment.

Here is what David Duchovny had to say (as translated into English):

"It is in the process of being written. One awaits just the green light from Fox, who are a little disappointed from the relatively poor reception of the second film. (The film grossed $20.8 million.) The error comes, in my opinion, from the authors straying too far from the roots of the series. Moreover, the film was released in the summer. The third will be much closer to what the public expects, with government conspiracies, etc."

There is no official word from 20th Century Fox on this news, but we will keep you updated as more information on The X-Files 3 is revealed.

The X-Files 3 is in development and stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson.

IMO Spooky Mulder and Skeptic Scully are one of the best tandems in a TV series!

UPDATE: November 7th- David's rep is telling Latino Review that the interviewer misunderstood David and that he did not say a script was in the works. Given however the other detailed information the interviewer did have and the fact that David would be unable to confirm this type of news due to confidentiality agreements, that Frank Spotnitz will neither confirm nor deny, and that Fox All Access carried the story, XFN believes that signs are pointing to an XF3 Script and an eventual Green Light from Fox. XFN has contacted the magazine and is awaiting an official response.

UPDATE: November 8th- Apparently David's rep told Latino Review that no official script was in the works. Not that no script was in the works. XFN is working to confirm that and has also contacted the original source in an attempt to clear up the confusion. Keep in mind that Frank Spotnitz made a statement on his blog that he could neither "confirm nor deny" but that he wished he could say more and for fans "not to give up".

Quote from David Duchovny: "Apparently a script is being written." (Sarcastically)

@Dave: Yes, I know you were joking... and so was I. "Why else" would I put a ":P" after my comment if I wasn't trying to play around? I'm not starting an argument either, so relax.

@reelmein: Blasphemy. If you were a fan you wouldn't be saying that a 3rd movie is a "waste of time and money," especially not after the poor critical reception of the 2nd film. The X-Files series needs to end on a high note, plain and simple.

@everyoneelse: For those who weren't there, as I said in the Caprica cancelled article, I think the perfect title for the 3rd movie would be "Believe the Lie"... because 1. its not cheesy or corny, and 2. It would sum up everything about the show in one film and also adress the show's ongoing mythology plots with that title alone. Plus, it was one of the most popular taglines of the series that just seems like it would work the best. :)

"Maybe there's hope" that Carter is listening, lmao. XD

I'm excited for a third film, but David's right, it underperformed because it was like a standalone episode, it should have been mythology, picked up where the series ended. If they can do that this time it'll perform well.
