Darren Aronofsky Directing Preacher Instead of Superman?

Darren Aronofsky now considered to direct Preacher
Director Darren Aronofsky has now emerged as the main contender to direct Columbia Pictures' upcoming graphic novel adaptation Preacher, according to Newsarama.

We reported back in April that director Sam Mendes, who was originally signed to direct, was no longer attached to the project. Columbia Pictures is currently seeking a new director for a 2011 start date, and Darren Aronofsky is "being targeted" as the guy for the job.

It was reported a few days ago that Darren Aronofsky is a major contender to direct the upcoming Christopher Nolan produced Superman remake. Since Warner Bros. is looking to shoot Superman in 2011 as well, it now seems that Darren Aronofsky will have to choose between the two high profile projects.

The Preacher graphic novel was created by Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, and centers on a priest named Jesse Custer. After he becomes possessed and slaughters his entire congregation, he goes on a quest to 'literally' find God.

Preacher comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by D.J. Caruso.

Mneee....He will win if he goes either way....If he does that one he'll do great and if he chooses that one he will still do great so....agree with @Rojo..."The Mime is good either way"

Very cool. Preacher is one of the most controversial, brutal graphic novels conceived. Would rather have him save Wolverine more than either of these films though. That's just my marvel showing.

I wont be too upset if he decides to direct this instead of Superman, Preacher sounds pretty interesting.

Never heard of preacher before, but it seems kind of silly. Then again you could probably say the same for the Superman character. With that said I'd say scrap the Preacher project and bring Aronofsky on for Superman. Also Superman is absolutely his kind of film, a man split between two personalities. One: who he actually is Superman, who bears the burden of being the entire world's savior from everything in an effort to live up to his dead father's standards. Two: Clark Kent, who he wants to be. A man with a normal job, relationship, and human problems. How is that not perfect for Aronofsky?

I agree with joekerr2e and The Narrator, this definitely feels like a better fit for him but I am really curious about how he would handle Superman.

@The_Narrator , you said it. I like the man's movies, but curious as to how he would've put Superman on the screen. Preacher is a much better fit for him.

@The Narrator, I agree, it does seem to be more of Aronofsky's fit, though I would still love to see his take on Superman.
