Darren Aronofsky signs an overall deal with Fox and is confirmed to direct The Wolverine
Aronofsky's debut picture under the pact will be The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman. Written by Oscar-winner Christopher McQuarrie, the film is scheduled to begin production in April next year.
The deal solidifies Fox's relationship with Aronofsky, whose recent films - this fall's critically acclaimed psychological thriller, Black Swan, was produced and distributed by Fox Searchlight, which also distributed Aronofsky's 2008 award-winning film The Wrestler. Black Swan opened this year's Venice Film Festival, and has since screened at such major festivals as Telluride, Toronto and London to great acclaim. The film arrives in theaters beginning December 3rd.
"Darren's vision has brought audiences some of the most original and memorable stories and characters in recent motion picture history," said Fox Searchlight heads, Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley. "We at Fox witnessed this first hand with his work on The Wrestler and Black Swan, and now, on The Wolverine, which will be an exciting take on that iconic figure and on the genre itself. We can't wait to see what else Darren has in store for us."
Added Emma Watts, president of production, Twentieth Century Fox: "We're excited Darren is going to bring his unique vision to The Wolverine and we take great satisfaction that Fox, irrespective of the size of his films, continues to provide a home for his extraordinary talent."
The Wolverine comes to theaters July 26th, 2013 and stars Hugh Jackman. The film is directed by James Mangold.

@Summit10...True the cgi claws in Origins looked wayyyyy to fake, specially in that scene when hes in the farm bathroon checking them out in the mirror, atleast in the x-men films his claws looked more realistic, they need to go back to using those kind of effects for the claws

Matrix already had Revolutions. Now that Aronofsky is definatly behind this i have nothing but high hopes. Even if you dont agree with the direction of the plotline, this man will make it work.

Wolverine: Revolution is stupid... The Wolverine is a great title.
PS. I think that Aronofsky directing this movie is old news....

Darren Aranofsky brings out the character and the plot to dramatic overtones, unique film making and a sense of taking it to new level. Unlike to previous one... hope all goes well.
PS: Please no more CGI Claws!!!!!

Aronofsky has a history of dropping out of mainstream projects, so I'm not holding my breath on him staying through to the end on Wolverine.

now I know why its called The Wolverine is kinda like the Dark Knight
The Studio wants to create a series that departs some of the elements in the X-men franchise
I think it should be called Wolverine : Revolution

The Narrator: The Better Man
@bane, good idea man. I think they can close everything off hopefully after this last film thou. Jackman is getting older, and a trilogy solely for Wolverine? Sorta pushing it. He basically was the center of the three X-Men films, so I don't think he needs anymore screen time for a while. Only reason I fully support this film is because that last Wolverine film left us with a terrible taste in our mouths. But knowing Fox, a trilogy might not be too far off. If they were to do that, I can see your preferred route working. Again, great idea about the bar scene.

I like what im hearing so far for this film, I wonder if the third we can maybe see Logan in Russia with a lil look at Omega Red
but all in all I hope they close off the trilogy with the scene of Logan entering the bar from the first film and show him signing up for the cage fight and as soon as they are announcing his first match under the name The Wolverine, it fades to black as a tease to years later how Rogue finds him there...
what do u guys think...?

While I believed Jackman before when he said Aronofsky was directing, this is nice confirmation. Makes it feel more real :)

Well at least we can feel safe with Aronofsky. Except, I would like to know how he is going to fix the disaster that was Origins by Hood. I agree with @Daveactor7, Mcquarrie is an excellent screenwriter and him together with Aronofsky= a great film.

This is officially the movie I'm most excited for, even more than Thor and The Avengers. Aronofsky's vision is wholly original, and I think he's one of the most unique directors working today. Having seen what he did with Jackman in The Fountain, I can only assume this is going to be a f*cking awesome movie in its own right. Add the fact that it's a serious, proper treatment of a beloved character and the fact that it's almost certain Clint Mansell will be scoring, and I can't imagine this going bad at all.

Nice, so it will be a dark, gritty film then, no campiness, and close to the source material. See this is what us comic fans love, contrary to popular belief. I agree with @JonSpidey07 though, a better title might have been "Wolverine:" and then some cool subtitle, lmao.
