Darren Aronofsky Brings Back RoboCop

Long last help is here! Robocop is returning to the force thanks to director Darren Aronofsky and writer David Self. The writer-director of The Fountain and the writer of Road to Perdition have inked deals to develop a brand new, big-budget installment in the hybridized crime fighter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Phoenix Pictures' Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and David Thwaites will produce. Although the Lion has not greenlighted the reinvention, it has fast-tracked the new RoboCop for a 2010 release, when the studio plans to roll out its new slate.

"Darren is undeniably one of the most talented, original and visceral filmmakers, and David is one of the greatest writers in Hollywood," said Mary Parent, chairman of MGM's worldwide motion picture group.

The original RoboCop, written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, was directed with camp adroitness by Paul Verhoeven in 1987 and released by Orion Pictures. It focused on a mortally wounded cop in a futuristic, crime-ridden Detroit who returns to fight corruption in the guise of a tough-talking cyborg. Sequels followed in 1990 and 1993, along with TV series and video games. RoboCop retains a sizable fan base online.

I find it funny that you all comlpain about all the remakes being made and yet you still go to the theatre to see them. Stop going to them if you hate remakes, or find something else to bitch about.

This should be real cool cause the first was really graphic for an 80s movie and id like to see what they can do with it now. kurtwood smith who played clarence bodicker in the 1st one should make an appearance cause he made the 1st one even more interesting to watch.

Do you want to know how to become a hack director!???

You become a hack director, & really start to lose your "Indi Film" Creed when you take money to Re-Make, not "ONLY" another man's film, (Who by the way is still living!)
& B) Re-Make a film which not "ONLY" was nominated for an Academy Award for Film Editing and an Academy Award for Sound. But the "ORGINIAL" "RoboCop" won the Academy Award for Sound Effects Editing.

In addition, in 2007, Entertainment Weekly named "RoboCop" the #14 "Greatest Action Movie" of all time.

Hellastupid!! This is a cult film!

I lost all respect for Darren Aronofsky!.

Yes moviebuff, that line about not liking cops was right before he shot Murphy's hand off with the 12-gage.

Also... "Hey... Take a look at my face *Dick*! He was trying to kill me...

    THAT MOVIE HAD AWESOME LINES.

I can't remember Siede... did he say that with the hand shot... or the head shot. Cool line. Man Smith had some cool lines didn't he?

(after blowing Murphy's hand off) - "Well, give the man a hand!" hahahah classic.

Oh not to say it wasn't rediculous, but this was supposed to be into the future of tattered Detroit city on its last legs. There are elements of reality but not photo reality. As it progressed, the realism wasn't even a factor throughout the story. I wasn't a Hobbs fan, but I didn't not like the character either. Get the right kid and he can be like the most scorned of women, devious. But I understand what you're saying as well moviebuff123. The second did nothing to take away from the first film at all. They just didn't have the classic lines.

"See, I have this problem with cops. They don't like me...So I don't like them...Nin nin nin nin nin nin nin nin...Nin nin nin nin..." BOOM!
