I remember watching the tv series when I was a kid. This should have been gothic. This looks horrible with the makeup. Another Burton skinker like Alice Wonderland.

@rufio Its not that i didnt like those films, its just that they seemed to be over the top in his wacky style but lacking in heart. That is not the norm for Burton but i agree with @dan1 i like his non wacko roles too. The movies mentioned like Blow, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Donny Brasco along with Whats eating gilbert Grape, Benny & Joon, Nick of Time and The Ninth Gate also come to mind.
However, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hallow (awesome burton movies) and Fear and Loathing are wonderful wacko roles that never get old.

@herione32 beautiful was the first couple films. now he's his own burton cliche. his style is his own genre and he never steps out of it. so much, in fact, that no matter what the story many of his movies all look the same. alice in wonderland looked like charlie and the chocolate factory looked like Nightmare Before Christmas looked like Beetlejuice looked like Edward Scissorhands (which, in my opinion, was one of his better films). there is something to be said for having vision and a unique sense of storytelling, but burton uses the same cast and effects every film (now rendering him more creepy than visionary or creative). even man-boy Michael Bay switches stuff up a little from time to time.

@Salem6777 -- Really? That's kind of low - It wasn't all that good, but it wasn't terrible either. Have you watched the other films Tim Burton made? You may want to change your statement if you have.

I have serious respect for Depp for taking roles like these. Serious (or what you guys are calling "normal") roles will always be there for the taking but the man chooses to step into unfamiliar roles that only reinforce how versatile of an actor he is. When hollywood loses all creativity to CGI he and Burton will be remembered for bringing our imaginations to life ( and Pixar =P).
I'm not crazy about the guy, nor have I seen half of his Burton films. I just give the guy credit for doing what most choose not to do.

im really getting tired of this. I get it johnny depp your wierd and you like to do wierd movies with tim burton. i mean come on your great actor and you have so much range but you keep doing these wierd as things and im tierd of it. do something else like play a NORMAL PERSON!!!!

@rufio I typically like his non-weird roles better. Donnie Brasco, Blow, Once Upon a Time in Mexico (though he was kinda weird there).

@herione32 while i think burton is a good director, i contest greatly the idea that anything he touches is going to be good. as @skywise said - the last handful of flix he directed were not good. while he managed to keep CCF closer to the novel, he managed to creep out most of his audience members (parents and kids, alike). his style is definitely signature, but it also wears old. they're all over-the-top presentations with weird characters and creepy fantasy.
who knows - maybe this one will be different, but JD is rocking the Michael Jackson look and outside of Jack Sparrow, many of his Burton characters are not beloved (yes i know sparrow is not burton, which only illustrates my point further).

Time Burton is a great director. There i said it. But he also pisses me off more than almost any other director out there because when you are as talented and visionary as Burton you tend to expect a lot. The last few films he has directed have been disapointing. I would like to see him back in form here.
