We reported last week that the last Harry Potter film had wrapped principal photography and now the star of that popular film series is going to war for his first post-Potter project. Variety is reporting that Daniel Radcliffe has been set to star in a remake of the 1930 Oscar winner for Best Picture, All Quiet on the Western Front.

Radcliffe will portray the lead character Paul Baumer, a German World War II soldier fighting in France. Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson wrote the script and will produce the film as well through their production company, Sliding Down Rainbows Entertainment.

"Daniel brings a vulnerability and innocence to Paul. When we realized how much he loved the script we were really excited because we know he can tap into the delicate balance between intensity and believability that is critical for this demanding role."

It doesn't seem that a director has been chose as of yet, but the site reports that the film will likely start shooting in 2012 after Radcliffe's commitment to the Broadway play "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" ends in 2011. The original 1930 version of All Quiet on the Western Front, based on Erich Maria Remarque's novel.

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on this project as soon as we have more information.

All Quiet on the Western Front was released August 24th, 1930 and stars Louis Wolheim, Lew Ayres, John Wray, Arnold Lucy, Ben Alexander, Scott Kolk, Owen Davis Jr., Walter Rogers. The film is directed by Lewis Milestone.

"All Quite On The Western Front" is shown often on TV, hence a testament to how good that 80yr old movie was. And with "Avatar" showing Hollywood that they need only convert flicks to 3D and remake crap with tons of visual effects to score points, then we'll probably be seeing a hell of a lot more horrid remakes this decade. And given how tame, yet effective the original was, I fear the remake will just be an overblown effects house of violence. Clint Eastwood's two Iwo Jima flicks pass off as among the best war flicks of the past decade, with "Letters From Iwo Jima" not allowing its extremely graphic violence overtake the drama and tension. But when they cast a kid whose only claim to fame is a couple stageplays and the Harry Potter franchise, then they're going too far. Kazunari Ninomiya may have been a pop-star, but at least he'd been a great actor before hand as well.

When they started Regularly making remakes most of the time they weren't that Good! Now adays some of them are downright Not good. So I agree with most of the Posters that that Film Shouldn't be remade. On the other hand, some of us haven't seen too many olden time movies, so If they turn out a Good one, then it would be good to see it. Another thing if the story is relative one to history, then some people may appreciate it being done again. But again if it is poorly made; it does disservice to the original movie. Most actors/actresses really would add to the plot if they do great acting too.

Pretty much half (probably more) movies being made nowadays are remakes, sickening.
