20th Century Fox and New Regency have set Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) to direct the John Grisham adaptation The Racketeer. The studio is currently seeking a writer to adapt the novel, which was published in October.

The story centers on a former attorney who is serving time in a federal penitentiary. When a judge is murdered at his cabin, and the contents of his safe are empty, this imprisoned lawyer is the only man who knows intimate details of the crime. He uses this knowledge to try and get revenge against those who put him behind bars in the first place.

Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher are producing through their Double Feature Films banner, with Daniel Espinosa and Shelley Browning executive producing.

The John Grisham novel has hit #1 on both the New York Times and USA Today best seller charts since its publication.
