Bill Murray will definitely not star in Ghostbusters 3
"No, I can tell you he won't be involved. It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one."
We reported in December that Bill Murray reportedly hated the script by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (Year One, Bad Teacher). Then, in February, it was confirmed that the actor would not be involved... until Bill Murray revealed in April that, "It's a possibility" that he returns. Dan Aykroyd also confirmed that the sequel will feature a young crop of Ghostbusters.
"Yes, we've got a brilliant new writer on it and we'll be passing the torch on to a new generation. We're working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I'm confident we'll be in production in the next year. Now we've got the studio on side. We've tried a few concepts which weren't right but now we've got a good structure and will make it happen."
We reported last month that Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) is writing the screenplay, although it isn't known if Ivan Reitman will be back to direct.
Ghostbusters 3 is in development and stars Sigourney Weaver, Anna Faris, Eliza Dushku, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson. The film is directed by Ivan Reitman.

They should drop this sh*t already, they probably should come and say its a damn reboot already. Its pointless and u not going to make this movie without Bill Murray, plus this is one of the best franchise he has ever done 4 his career. 2 b honest I want 2 c this 3rd Ghostbusters film happen, but they just fooling around with just some ol' bullsh*t stuff. Now I said reboot maybe its because Columbia Pictures is rebooting their movies, but we all know its not a reboot its a sequel. Now if their going to do this without Bill Murray, just say that Peter Venkman died and someone or their children would continue their legacy. Maybe thats worth interesting anyway.

Oregon, I was just going to comment the same thing. Reboot and have cameos from the original cast playing other characters, with Ramis producing. This can't be stalled forever because Murray is kicking tires.

I think its best they move on like he said. If Bill truly cared about the fans he would not hesitate to come back. he seems like he is only out for himself and thats a real shame.

i predict the old dark knight rises lie. no talia no robin. no murray. how he stated before that he might want his character killed off in the beginning. the writers can mention how hes dead in the beginning and make nothing of it and at the end make a twist that hes the ghost causing all the trouble or if anything a cameo at the end. if they're passing the torch then the screen time of the old cast doesnt have to be that long either. I just hope the writers try to make this a sci fi film with comedy in it then a year one/bad teacher kind of comedy where 5-10 minutes are based on riding off on one joke that goes off topic of the main story. with all the production delays its easy to see the script being out of its time on comedy. the office was hilarious a couple of years back, now its just horrible. if the writers use comedy that was good a couple of years ago....its played out by now

This is one story I am so tired of hearing. I think its time to let it go. Anyway, I dont want to see 60 year old GB's unless they are training new members which could work if done right. i dont even want to say the word reboot but honestly, there is a beter chance of that happening than getting Bill on board with this. His taste in movies has changed so much over the years. I just dont see it happening.
Sorry to be negative but look, we saw what happend to Indiana Jones when he came back and that was just sad. I dont want the same thing to happen to MY ghost busters!
