Dakota Goyo joins Real Steel

While a new DreamWorks film has had its lead actor secured for some time in Hugh Jackman, the studio has finally chosen on the young actor who will play his son. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Canadian actor Dakota Goyo has joined the cast of Real Steel.

The 11-year-old Canadian-born actor will play the long-lost son of Hugh Jackman's character, who bonds with his father while training a robot boxer to fight in an upcoming competition. It was said that DreamWorks sent out an open casting call in February and also held auditions in Chicago and New York for this character, who was said to be, "street-smart, tough, charming kid with a hard, untrusting outer shell which hides a warm enthusiastic spirit beneath."

Goyo's work has mainly been on Canadian television, but he appeared in the 2007 American film Resurrecting the Champ alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett. Shawn Levy is directing the film, which has already set a November 18, 2011 release date.

Real Steel was released October 7th, 2011 and stars Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn, Marco Ruggeri. The film is directed by Shawn Levy.
