Chris Columbus has acquired the rights to Anne Rice's novel Christ the Lord Out of Egypt for 1492 Pictures and CJ Entertainment.

Cyrus Nowrasteh will direct this adaptation, which he is co-writing with his wife Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh. The story follows Jesus Christ at seven years of age as he travels from Egypt to Nazareth in search of his true purpose in life.

Anne Rice sought Cyrus Nowrasteh out herself after seeing his film The Stoning of Soraya M.. After agreeing to direct the film, Cyrus then brought the project to 1492 Pictures and Chris Columbus.

The producer had this to say about the project.

"This film has the potential to be a cinematic classic, a picture that will appeal to all ages, all around the world. I am proud to be part of this incredible production."

Christ the Lord Out of Egypt comes to theaters in 2014. The film is directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh.

I was really excited when Rice announced this on her Facebook. Out of Egypt is one of my favourite novels of the 2000s, and I'm interested to see how it shapes up onscreen. Rice really managed to capture an honest, tortured integrity in the character of Jesus that I found really resonant. I hope she goes back to complete this series with another book.

Just what the world needs ... Another fable we are all to take as actual history. Too bad 90% of the world cannot tell the difference.

Cool. Something different from Anne Rice could be entertaining.
