While we reported that director Kenny Ortega will not be getting Footloose earlier this week, it seems a new director seems poised to take over. According to The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business Blog, Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer is reportedly one of the top choices to direct Footloose.

As bizarre as that sounds, it seems that Ortega left the project when he learned Paramount wanted a more dramatic tale, and not a splashy musical production. Since Brewer is known for his darker and more dramatic fare, it seems this could be a good fit.

No deal has been signed, and it wasn't even mentioned if both Brewer and Paramount have discussed the job. We'll be sure to keep you posted on these new developments.

Footloose was released October 14th, 2011 and stars Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid, Andie MacDowell, Miles Teller, Ray McKinnon, Patrick Flueger, Kim Dickens. The film is directed by Craig Brewer.
