Could Sarah Michelle Gellar Return as Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

After a six-year hiatus, we may finally be getting more of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this time as a feature film. According to reports from ShowbizSpy.com, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the teenaged vampire hunter for seven years on television, is in talks to reprise her role as Buffy Ann Summers in a film sequel to the series.

Insider reports say that the idea for the script has the story picking up with an older Buffy, who might even be a mother. The report further says that while Gellar is currently busy with other projects, she is excited about the idea. "Buffy still has a huge fan-base," the insider says "So this is a movie that already has an audience." It is further pointed out that "Michelle is a shrewd businesswoman so the chances are this will happen at some point."

Ironically, this wouldn't be the first time that the character of Buffy has appeared on the big screen. Years before Buffy the Vampire Slayer came to television sets, there was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie starring Kristy Swanson. The film was mostly ignored by the television series - and by fans of the series - although the first episode of the show suggests that the events of the movie at least partially happened for the version of the character played by Gellar.

If a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie does happen, it would mark the second time that one of Joss Whedon's shows has lived on in film form, the first happening with Serenity, which was the film follow-up to the critically successful, but commercially unsuccessful Firefly. Of greater speculation is how much of the cast of the show would be available for the film, with most of the other cast members busy with their own television shows (Alyson Hannigan on How I Met Your Mother, David Boreanaz on Bones and Eliza Dushku on Dollhouse).

if there is a god, fox will give them 100 mill for a budget and bring everyone back. If they dont then ill officially move on, i watched all of the current supernatural, and i have to say it is my ideal show, horror, comedy, action, and drama. its a man's series and it kicks ass, go and watch it, from season 1 to 4, dont stop because it gets increasingly better as they find their feet. puts smallvilleand heroes in the dirt!

I hope this is for real. I continue to read about BUFFY through the season 8 comics, as well as season 6 of ANGEL in the comics. The movie will only work if the original cast and Whedon are involved. If it wasn't for BUFFY & ANGEL Hannigan, Boreanaz, and Dushku wouldn't be where they are now. As for Gellar, she NEEDS to do this. It's the only way she'll boost her career again. You'd be surprised how big BUFFY's fanbase still is.

Sarah Gellar needs this. Her movie career has not been the best for her and bring back Buffy back would be a delight to me and other Buffy fans out there.

Hmmm interesting, the series was carried on through a comic series...
But i don't know about this one. I don't see it working without the original cast...and i think Buffy's fan base is rather murdered by now

The old film from the late 80s / early 90s was good. So all hail another remake, yay.

I loved the show - six years ago. I'm not sure that the magic is still there to try to adapt it into a film now.
