Could Lethal Weapon 5 reboot Mel Gibson's career?
After a month of bad publicity for Mel Gibson, new rumors are beginning to surface that the actor has been meeting with producer Joel Silver in hopes of reprising his role as Martin Riggs in the long awaited sequel Lethal Weapon 5. The actor had been asked to sign onto the film back in 2005, but he is only now seriously considering it after falling from grace with both his fans and the general public.

What's Playing is reporting that talks of Gibson returning to the franchise are on-going between Mel and Silver, who has long hoped to bring the series back from the dead.

Their anonymous source, who is a writer currently working for Type A films, stated, ""They're talking again. Mel probably needs Joel, not to mention Lethal Weapon now more than ever, so I wouldn't at all be surprised if it comes off this time. And it could be a good move, that's a mighty big brand name - it probably would help Gibson, professionally-speaking. I'm not in on those conversations though - so I don't know how they're progressing. You're getting this third-hand".

At this stage, this should all be considered nothing more than a rumor. We will keep you updated as more news on this issue comes in.

Lethal Weapon 5 is in development .

Many pro sport legends, Hall of Famers, were drunks and wife beaters and yet they are revered to this day. While the media have jumped on Gibson like locusts (I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it) how many others, lesser names, do these programs ignore? Like I said, everyone has the right to avoid Gibson's movies if they wish but people shouldn't get on their high horse and throw stones so quickly, just because it's in vogue to do so. My opinion of Gibson, as a movie actor/producer/director hasn't changed one little bit. I choose to ignore their personal lives. Whether Gibson is an a**hole is of no consequence to me.

You and I know that, and I see where your going but some people would disagree with you and start an argument over nothing. Some people worship actors, some stalk them to no end and have no really idea that they are human. To them they are Gods.

I've now accepted the fact that Mel is now flawed. At first I thought he was a nice guy, now I know different and I will watch his films for countless years to come.

i totally get what your saying but i think people need to realize that their not perfect and no one else is, its called human error for a reason we all make mistakes so lets not crucify someone over something that is so controversial at the moment. Wait till all the facts come out then if you still feel like you have to pass judgment on another which you don't but if by some weird belief you have you feel your entitled too then go for it, everyone has said and done things they regret and yet people around them forgive and forget, why don't people focus on bigger issues than this

Remy72883 that's one long sentence. You need to put a period every once in a while.

You're absolutely right it's just that some people have this image that their favorite actor can do no wrong. I still a little upset about it but I will get over the shock, who's your favorite actor? Will Smith or is it someone else only to find out that they said or did something wrong. It would lead you to question your self if you still want to follow them.

    Well Said @Stewie

I totally agree i love how people are picking and choosing who they bash and who they don't, i cant remember how many of my friends defended Michael Vick saying it wasn't that big a deal and instantly forgave him, or Quinton Jackson, former light heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighter Championships was arrested after being involved in a hit and run, but no one remembers that, then you got the younger stars going to rehab every other weekend like its a new trendy club or going to jail every other weekend, i mean seriously if your gonna hate, then hate on them all don't pick and choose what is gonna be convenient for you, and who really cares what a guy they never met thinks, my opinion is simple, if he is not paying my bills and feeding my family i don't care what the guy thinks, and if people want to get on him about this whole racism thing fine, but i will put money on it your not their at the front lines protesting a KKK march or some dumb sh*t like that, if your gonna believe in your conviction go all the way don't half ass it, its like some of the fans have become nothing more than vultures just wanting to tear celebrities down just to prove a point that their normal people just living good lives, or the fact that their jealous, that why when these actors and other celebrities lash out i let it go, no one has any idea how stressful their lives are, you have absolutely no privacy, you can even go out to a regular place in public to eat without some idiot their with a camera or camcorder, so if your gonna drink and party to release some stress then fine, if you go off from time to time then fine, everyone at some point and time has said something they didn't mean and if they say they haven't i have no problem calling them a LIAR to their faces, everyone has made mistakes and all you can do is learn from their, and just like Stewie said the line started way before Mel Gibson so how about everyone get off the guys back, bad enough he has this chick trying to extort 10 million bucks from his ass,

Well Kaydog, your choice is to keep your money in your pocket and not support Gibson's movies. I don't care how big a prick he is, just whether his movies are entertaining. Are you telling me every star, professional athlete, author, whatever....that you follow is squeaky clean? We want to start judging these people? The line starts long before Mel Gibson. There wouldn't be enough time in the day for these trashy entertainment programs like Entertainment Tonight to talk about the flaws or choices these actors make in life.

Surprised to see so many people crapping on LW4. I thought it was way ahead of the third chapter, if for no other reason than Jet Li provided a better villain than the third one. I'd love to see them bring back most, if not all, the cast for a fifth one. But it starts with Danny and Mel. From all I've read, they have a great idea for a fifth movie, so why the heck not. The LW franchise definitely ranks on my list as one of the better franchises out there. And, as was the case with Tom Cruise, I could care less what personal problems these stars have. Is the movie worth seeing or not is all that matters to me, not whether someone is jumping on Oprah's couch or flapping his gums. Here's a scoop folks, these highly-paid actors are just as flawed and pathetic as the rest of us. Get over it.

This is cool. I really liked Edge of Darkness, and I am bummed it didn't get more viewers. Still, if he really wanted to reboot his career, he would have signed on earlier for Mad Max Fury Road. But this is a good choice. Bring back the entire cast!

I rather not see another LW. Fourth film was slightly fun but not so good at the same time.
As an actor I like him since he escapes into the character as a person he's deeply flawed and has anger management this horrible news should have never been aired or released, it shows us what Mel truly is. Once I heard the news, I won't watch any of his new films.
He needs to stop acting for five years and only direct and produce for now on. If he truly wants to redeem himself then he needs to go to rehab, reviving his old character would only hurt him more than he realizes.
I'm sorry to say this but the only way LW can move forward is for bringing in two new characters. while Dan and Mel only have guest appearances. Well that's what I think should happen.

Except the part they forgot to mention is how Mel crawled to Silver's office, begging for a overbudgeted unneccessary comeback flick to remind his fans about his glory days...and in doing so, how they're far behind him. ;)

I can't fairly comment on what he did or didn't say or do as I don't read newspapers or gossip magazines and have only gathered what I know from others. However, I won't be watching LW5 (if it ever happens, which I sincerely doubt) because the last one made me cringe and feel old myself. I don't think the Riggs/Murtough dynamic could be the same again. They really both are "too old for this sh*t".

Whether he's got one black friend or not, that doesn't change what he said, or who he is. And really, does Danny Glover really count for the whole demographic? You hear a lot of racist white people say, "Oh, some of my best friends are black." Really? If you can count how many friends are this color or that, you're paying way too much attention and probably check your home for anything missing before they leave. Mel said what he said and it is inexcusable. Whether it was out of anger, whether it was in private, whether it was a recorded phone conversation, it was out of line. Just imagine if he was speaking to or toward a black person, the outrage would be far worse. But for anything like that to even form in your mind as a thought indicates the true nature of the man. And then to refer to it as a "Pack" really tells you how low we are in his truest opinion. Dogs travel in packs. Animals travel in packs. People travel in gangs or mobs or groups, but not packs. Either way, what Mel said was outrageous. I was a fan of his for a long time. I was kind of staggered a few years back when he had his first rant that turned the Jewish community away from him before the release of, The Passion of the Christ. And he didn't just rant about them. But I forgave it. I can no longer support it. Though he didn't personally say anything to me, I still feel insulted as if he had. Let down as a fan. Yes, what he said was in private. But sense it was leaked to us, the public, it has had its effect. I shudder at racism. And I'm not going to support anyone who can't respect the whole of mankind. Nor am I going to support anyone that doesn't like me, a black man, in the back of his mind. We all say things in the heat of anger. We all say things in private. But the moment you begin to slur on about this race or that or in reference to this race or that, then it's no longer a joke...No longer just a comment...It is a deep seeded intolerance that is clawing its way out of you. I'm not angry, we have the right to say what we think and feel. Just accept that I don't have to like it. And to say he hung out with Danny Glover, of course he hung out with Danny Glover. He acted with him in a film franchise that made most of his career, money can sometimes show how great an actor you really are when it comes to shaking hands.
