Conan gallops towards theaters August 19th, 2011
That same date is also shared by Robert Rodriguez's family friendly sequel Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, as well as the teen oriented reboot Fright Night.
Its doubtful that Conan will receive the R rating shared by its first theatrical incarnation Conan The Barbarian, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even back in 1984, Universal was smart enough to know that both Conan and Schwarzenegger appealed to kids and adults alike, giving the sequel Conan the Destroyer a PG rating.
We may see Conan take a similar approach, toning down its violence and sexuality for a PG-13 rating. Which would put it in direct competition with Fright Night. Then again, the advanced photos coming in have already shown enough nudity to get the reboot an R. If that's the case, the weekend of August 19th will be rounded out quite nicely, with a late summer film for every demographic.
Director Marcus Nispel has shot a more faithful adaptation of Robert E. Howard's fictional world, and with Conan we should get a more accurate portrayal of the character, as played by Jason Momoa.
Conan the Barbarian was released August 19th, 2011 and stars Jason Momoa, Stephen Lang, Rachel Nichols, Ron Perlman, Rose McGowan, Bob Sapp, Leo Howard, Steven O'Donnell. The film is directed by Marcus Nispel.

I'm still going to wait and see on this movie. They took a HUGE chance casting Jason Momoa in this role. With only 5 years of Stargate Atlantis on his resume, casting him in a big budget reboot simply for looking the part doesn't seem right. Momoa's acting so far is the equivalant to what Hayden Christensen's has been on Star Wars... they're both good at acting angry but not much else.
I guess with a movie like Conan, though, that's all you really need. Or atleast that's the impression most are probably going to give after this film.

How can they remake them? It's simple. This isn't a remake. It's a reboot. There's a difference. It's the same with Superman. Snyder even stated that that is not a remake of any previous films, and neither is this. They are not trying to duplicate what the past movies did.

Well if it is PG-13 then I won't pay to watch it. I want to see an R rating Conan. I'm sick of Hollywood toning down movies so they can make more money at the theater. I understand it's a business but they won't get mine if they do that.

Jason Momoa is such a terrible actor. All he did on Stargate Atlantis was act angry, then laugh and smile in every scene where he wasn't talking and someone wasn't saying anything funny. He doesn't know how to stay in character. These movies were classic and should've never been made, even with a credible actor and well known director. Stop rebooting stuff, Hollywood.
