COMIC-CON 2008: Punisher: War Zone Explodes Into San Diego!
However, director or no director, the show must go on and here are some of the highlights of this new panel:
- Hurd noted that they went back to the Marvel Max comic book series in this film because, "we wanted it to be cooler, ultra-violent, vigilante justice." Massive applause ensued.
- She also noted that, while they loved Thomas Jane and his portrayal of the previous Punisher, "but if it's not gonna be Tom Jane, find us a Frank Castle that looks like he came straight out of the comic book," referring to Ray Stevenson, which brought on another round of applause.
- Hurd went on to go over director Lexi Alexander's background, from her debut feature film, Green Street Hooligans to her Oscar-nominated short, Johnny Flynton before that and her successful career in martial arts before that. "She really can kick your ass," Hurd added, also noting how well she understands this level of action and violence.
- When Ray Stevenson started to talk and thanked everyone for coming, the crowd broke out in even louder applause, some shouting, "Pullo!!" in reference to his Titus Pullo character on the popular but short-lived HBO series, Rome.
- Both Julie Benz and Ray Stevenson hadn't read the comic books before signing on to their roles, but Stevenson added that, "the more I read them, I couldn't put them down."
- Stevenson also remarked on the training he underwent with Pat Johnson, "a 67-year-old walnut of a man," according to Stevenson, who had worked on Lexi Alexander's previous films and was apparently a personal friend and trainer for Steve McQueen years ago.
- Stevenson, in responding to a fan question, said that he would be open for potential sequels, noting, "It's up to the fanbase. If this works, then we get to do it all again." He also added that, "If it works well, we'll be back here showing the next one, and the one after that, and the one after that. There's a whole other world of Max."
- The panel ended with a new "music video" of footage that is really, really worth a look.
Punisher: War Zone explodes into theaters on December 5.
Punisher: War Zone was released December 5th, 2008 and stars Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Doug Hutchison, Colin Salmon, Wayne Knight, Dash Mihok, Julie Benz, Stephanie Janusauskas. The film is directed by Lexi Alexander.

This is not a part 2 this is a stand alone plot. Marvel has reattained the rights and are doing it the way they see fit.

I said it once..I willl say it again!! ..Yawn!!
Yawn...Not my thing! & to think it about it, W./out Thomas Jane, or even the director from the 1st "Punisher" Jonathan Hensleigh, then what would the point in seeing Part 2 (AKA &/Or: "Punisher: War Zone".)..!!??..?
If I went to the "Comic-Co 2008", the "ONLY" thing I would have checked out, would have been meeting director Guy Ritchie!
He was there to screen new footage of his new film: "RocknRolla" W./Stars: Geard Butler, Jeremy Piven & Ludacris, And producer Joel Silver in attendance..! Coool..! ......"My movies are sort of like graphic novels," Ritchie says. "They're bigger than life. Where else are going to find characters with names like Bullet Tooth Tony?' ...
("RocknRolla" Hits Theaters Oct.3, 2008!)

The Dark Knight cannot be compared to any other comic based movie because of it's realism. Case in point the Punisher WZ is just a gap in the void between the Avenger's Origins (Thor, Captain America) movies. More of a way to make a little revenue in between, in my opinion.

just like the new Batman Dark Knight Closer to a comic feel (jokerSmile)

This is a standalone story, not a reboot nor sequel. This is later in the Punisher's "career." Closer to a comic feel so don't expect realism, but think more of a Die Hardesque action movie. A no brains action movie. Just don't go in building it up expecting a masterpiece and it should turnout just fine.

Thomas Jane chose to be out of this one because of the so called weak story line and different direction. I say he made a mistake, Marvel owns this property now and I believe the fathering company knows more than anyone about their Son of vengeance. So don't write the movie off because an actor chooses not to participate. Not saying that it's going to be a top ten movie but I believe that it is worth seeing at least. The story isn't the most original, family gets killed off husband seeks revenge on those that feed on the weak. How many times have we seen that. Death Sentence (not a comic book movie) does this the best and is most convincing.

i agree with you (dcmx16) they should had thomas jane and I just watched Mutant Chronicles movie and it isn't very good. The acting is wooden the dialogue is corny the special effects are so bad its distracting.
That said its worth a rent, but if they release this save your money and wait for the DVD.
I cant believe Jane didnt want in on the Punisher sequel but said yes to this, damn it
