According to Variety, Columbia Pictures will be making The Lost Symbol. This is the third film in The Da Vinci Code franchise.

Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) will be adapting Dan Brown's book.

This new story sees Robert Langdon summoned to Washington, D.C., where he starts to decode the symbols of the Freemasons.

Tom Hanks, who was Langdon in The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, has not yet committed to return for the third film. It is expected that he will. Imagine's Brian Grazer and John Calley have signed on to produce The Lost Symbol.

Columbia has high hopes for The Lost Symbol. The book was a huge best seller last year. The Doubleday book sold over 1 million copies its first day in print last September.

The Da Vinci Code was released May 19th, 2006 and stars Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, Paul Bettany, Alfred Molina, Jürgen Prochnow, Jean-Yves Berteloot. The film is directed by Ron Howard.

Angels and Demons was a better movie precisely because they didn't feel the need to follow Brown's novel so closely, which is what makes adaptations work. The Da Vinci Code was so awkwardly paced it was jarring, especially the hilarious historical flashbacks that looked straight out of a history channel doc*mentary.

I think this movie is going to be good because the book is really interesting, just i'm hoping that the writer keeps like the same style from the previous two.

Good analysts, Rufio, although, personally I like Angels and Demons (in book form) more than the Da Vinci Code. Otherwise, I agree wholeheartedly. I have yet to read the latest.

DaVinci Code - good book, boring movie
Angels/Demons - lesser book (though not bad), fantastic movie
interesting to see how this one shapes up. ron howard learned from the first movie about how to speed it up and keep it interesting. i love this series, even if it is completely fictional.
