Columbia Picks Up Horror Flick Animals

Columbia has acquired the high-concept spec script Animals, written by newcomer Mike Sobel. Neal Moritz is producing through his Original Films banner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the horror thriller's central idea is that all the planet's animals turn on humans, from wild creatures to pets.

Moritz produced the political thriller Vantage Point, which has grossed more than $43 million. His Prom Night remake opens April 11.

No word on when Animals will start filming.

Animals was released November 5th, 2008 and stars Marc Blucas, Naveen Andrews, Nicki Aycox, Eva Amurri, Andy Comeau, Bart Johnson, Gillian Shure, Mark Elias. The film is directed by Douglas Aarniokoski.

    WTF...

    First, Snakes on a Plane, now this.

    Animals: Canine and Feline revenge for the poisoned pet food fiasco last year. I'm sure this movie won't be complete without a Chihuahua biting someone's nuts.

    This movie will be followed by: TREES: The Loggers' Torment. Starring Rosey O'Donnell as a killer redwood.
