The King's Speech star Colin Firth has been offered the villain role in Mandate Pictures' Oldboy remake for director Spike Lee. It isn't known yet if the actor plans to accept the offer or not.

If he takes on the role, Colin Firth will play Adrian, the villain who squares off against Josh Brolin's lead character. Chan-wook Park directed the original Oldboy, a South Korean thriller which followed a man seeking revenge against those who kept him in confinement for over 15 years.

We reported in September that Rooney Mara is the front runner for Oldboy's female lead, although we haven't heard anything further regarding her involvement since that time. A report also surfaced in August that indicated Christian Bale is interested in the remake. However, the actor will not make a decision on which project to take on next until after he wraps production on The Dark Knight Rises.

Spike Lee is directing Oldboy from a screenplay by Mark Protosevich. It isn't known when production will begin on Oldboy.

Oldboy comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley. The film is directed by Spike Lee.
