Cloverfield 2 still happening says Matt Reeves
The director of the original movie explains that he has been too busy to lock a script, but that he is constantly working on perfecting the sequel's storyline.
Here is what he said.
"Well, you are going to see it - we just don't know when [laughs]. At the moment we are talking about the story quite a lot. Drew Goddard, who wrote the original, is going to pen the sequel and J.J. Abrams is very much involved. However, the three of us have been so busy that getting the right idea together has been taking a long time."
About the sequel taking place in real time, and being shot fauxumentary-style, Matt Reeves had this to say.
"You see, that's a difficult part: we want it to be shot like the first but how can you continue that idea successfully for a second time? We have a lot of affection for the original and the sequel can't just be the same thing. But that is tricky when you need to have a monster destroying stuff once again."
Cloverfield 2 is in development .

@bane5000 I agree but since it was from the view of random survivors i didnt expect much in the way of explanation. Maybe a sequel could fill in those gaps.

I bet the studio isn't even f*cking with this. Reeves idea to basically do another Cloverfield from someone else's camera view probably isn't flying.

@ajlewis...With that lil easter egg of the whisper sayin its alive, as well as the scene when it first attacks and everyone runs in the store, u can hear Robs brother telling " Rob, i saw it, its alive ", its like they had some idea what the creature was, they gotta continue the story somehow, u know

@skywise...lol I'll admit when i saw it in theaters i was getting kind of dizzy and lightheaded from the camera bouncing around, but in all it was a good sci fi film for these days, it just bugged me they never said what the hell the monster was :]

@bane5000 I remeber reading about that bridge scene too. There was a moment when the camera guy looked over and there was another guy filming him as he was filming...or something like that. I could deal with a sequel based off that idea. The shakey camera did not bother me like it did most everyone else i know.

The reason for the shaking camera was that the movie was shot as hand held{a.k.a. Home movie} as apposed to profesionally shot...With real hitech cameras!!!!!

Hated this crap Godzilla wanna be. the only reason for that shaky camera was to cover up the low budget. And what kind of monster we got, a Teletubby on Acid. PS J.J. co-wrote that other crap Armageddon so perfect he ain't!

Didnt they mention before that they wanted to try to do it the same way with a hand held camera but from another person point of view when the attack was happening...
they said something bout that during the bridge scene when the monster smashes his tail into it, u can see other people with cameras, and making the movie from one of their point of views making a whole different situation with different people but within the same movie, maybe show more of what happened after the end of the first one, whether the monster survived or not

@cody-ellsmore well, the cameraman in the movie wasn't a pro and he was trying to run away from the monster/s. Kinda hard not to move the camera around under those conditions.

what if perhaps in the sequel they have a tv news crew following the monster, with a feisty lois lane like character and a few other people following the monster. this just a brain fart really, but i'd like to see another film, j.j abrams hasn't let me down yet.
