Could Chuck star Ryan McPartlin be Captain America?
In an interview with Moviehole, Chuck actor Ryan McPartlin confirmed to the site that he recently auditioned for the role of Steve Rogers in The First Avenger: Captain America.

"The one thing I can't stand are these actors that are twittering about auditioning for Captain America. It's really tacky.

With that said, it is in the casting process and like many other actors, I read for it, so we'll wait and see what happens. Regardless, I'm pretty psyched to be Captain Awesome [on Chuck] for the time being."

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

@Park: ECKHART is good but he's too old.

@josh: come on thomas jane was a great PUNISHER. I admit the movie was a little boring and lacked a strong villain to bounce off, but it was better than the new one. he COULD have been a decent CAPY as well....but age again.

i've said it before, i LIKE Worthington...but he's not a steady lead yet!

    chad - lol!

Appearance is the 2nd part of the pie. You have to look the part and play the part. Can't be THAT HARD to find somebody, there are a billion people on this earth.

@Illuminati: Aaron Eckhart has both the talent and the appearance to pull this off. Though he's certainly a more Captain America looking actor that a Steve Rogers looking actor. I can see Thomas Jane, though I don't think Worthington could really bring the character to it's full potential at this point in his career.

You can get an actor who looks the part and can still act.

people, please stop focusing on the LOOKS. Yes it's a plus, but the ACTING is what can make the character.

Someone said it best, about Hopkins and Langhella playing NIXON perfectly, without even looking like the guy.

I don't know anything about this guy, but i'm not a fan of TV actors taking lead roles in films! There's a reason very few have made that successful transition, and even they have taken smaller roles first before jumping into Leads!

Stage actors have been better for the transition of Film actors. This is where they should be looking for soild talent!

I've often thought of Eckhart for the role simply for his look. I've only seen a few episodes of Chuck and I'm skeptical about McPartlin.

"Avengers Assemble!" is different than yellow spandex. The right person can give the order for the Avengers to assemble without it sounding cheesy...but yellow spandex is still sh*tty yellow spandex no matter who wears it.

@The_Fallen: Sorry, but any actor who is of an average size can tone his body up and down. They do it all the time and have personal trainers to help them. Jared Leto, Robert DeNiro, Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Charlize Theron, Fergie, Tom Hardy, and many others have done it. Hell, Bale dropped a dangerous 40 lbs for his role in The Machinist, and right afterwards had to gain another 50 to do Batman Begins.

McPartlin is in good shape as it is. A workout regimen could have him bulked up to the right size in six weeks.
Steve Rogers is not even close to the biggest hero in the Marvel canon, and since comic books tend to exaggerate muscle size anyway (no human looks like Wolverine does in a lot of the comics) I can definitely see someone his size in the role. I'm not saying he's the best choice, but they're going to go with someone lesser known like this, and I think he's a good fit. I'm curious who you would pick?

As for the voice, this guy's is pretty deep so I'm not sure what you're getting at there. Besides, I REALLY hope they don't have him yelling "Avengers Assemble!" in the movie because that would be super cheesy. Some things (like yellow spandex) don't transfer well from comics to film.

Josh, your right about Spiderman not having to be buff. But after Steve becomes Cap by the serum, he is buff. But a few names I think of, already has one or two comic characters under them, and would be hard for another to be added. But just like I said on the DD page, Ryan Rynolds would be a over all physcial fit.
Did anyone see the Smallville 2 hour last night? Man, that was kool. The guy who played Hawkman could fit Cap's boots. Just another name.

  24. The Narrator: The Better Man

For what its worth, he is in pretty good shape already and seems to have a more classic look, but still not my front runner at all. I'd cast him as Antman as a better fit, but for me, Patrick Wilson has that spot perfectly.

  25. The Narrator: The Better Man

Lol Josh. Not ANY actor can bulk up. People think its easy to do, but its not for the matter of time they require to get in shape to film in time. And btw, the characters prior hero and post hero change hugely. Not too much on Parker's part, but definitely Rogers has a fascinating metamorphoses. He is a frail, skinny, and sickly young boy (17 or so) when the story starts. Then, when he is transformed he looks completely different. COMPLETELY.

They might as well use the effects Fincher used in Benjamin Button to help the transformation, mixed with the type used in the upcoming Wolfman (also J. Johnson directed) just to get the real feel of how big the difference is between Steve Rogers prior super soldier serum, and post.

Besides this guy CAN NOT do the Avengers scream. That requires huge acting and a manly yet humane voice and if you watch Chuck (I'm not a fan but my friends are) this guy isn't one to bring something new to the table. He may shock me, and I will eat my words, and you can get me on that but I will at least hold out for a better choice till more news is posted.

  26. Josh

The_Fallen: Yes, but they don't become that way through natural means. Considering that Rogers and Parker both become genetically modified there's no reason they should have to look like bodybuilders to be believable in combat. And besides that, any actor can bulk up for a role. You think Hugh Jackman looked like he does as Wolverine before he got that role?

I can dig it. Probably not the best choice, but he certainly fits the bill.

  28. The Narrator: The Better Man

Josh, your sorely mistaken. Only before they become who they are, are they weak, frail, and outcast. Afterwards, Cap and Spidey both are two of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe. Spiderman being able to even take on the entire X-Men single handedly and Cap being.. well we all know what he can do. So this guys is not a fit. Really he doesn't look the part.

And remember, he has to be able to do the Avengers scream successfully and motivationally.
