Chronicles of Narnia is the Top Selling DVD for the First Half of 2006

The top selling DVD during the first half of the year has been The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Despite DVD's with newer features, HD and Blu-ray, the decline in home video has continued into 2006.

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, "consumer home video spending slipped 3.7% in the first half of the year, to $10.9 billion, according to preliminary estimates from Home Media Retailing's market research department."

In addition to this, "purchases are down 3.6%, to $7 billion, while rentals fell 3.9% to $3.9 billion."

Executives at studios are not surprised by this citing that "more than 80% of U.S. households now have at least one DVD player," and people new to the format aren't purchasing like their consumer predecessors.
