"[...] while David Goyer and myself were putting together the story for another Batman film a few years ago, you know thrashing out where we might move on from The Dark Knight, we got stuck. We were just sitting there idly chatting and he said "by the way, I think know how you approach Superman".. and he told me his take on it. I thought it was really tremendous. It was the first time I've been able to conceive of how you'd address Superman in a modern context I thought it was a really exciting idea. What you have to remember about Batman and Superman is that what makes them the best superhero characters there are, the most beloved after all this time, is the essence of who they were when they were created, when they were first developed. You can't move too far away from that."
We also have the magazine issue's cover that features Inception, which you can take a look at below.

Inception was released July 16th, 2010 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

If Nolan captures what @SupermanEmpire just described, it'll be the definitive version of Superman.

If by some small chance Nolan or any of his people review these boards...staying close to the origin's concept is key...but also realize the best Sups stories have been about the struggle of power in Kent's own head, if any living being had that much power, and the world was as f*cked in the books as it is in reality...how could they not act on what they believed was the right way to make it better...In history...all men with that much unbridled power, become conqueror's....they breed Empire's. Kent at his heart is a man....men's hearts are flawed, full of fear, fear of loss...with power and fear, comes the struggle of one's humanity...there's your f*cken Sups movie.

If Nolan ends up writing/producing/directing the next Superman film...I can die at peace with the world.

oh and i agree with the poster about the bat/sup movie. ESPECIALLY if nolan gets involved with that. i cant even begin to imagine how good that movie would be. as long as they cast the same ppl from both franchises into the crossover movie.

Nolan is this generations Hitchc*ck, hes a film wizard. He will never half-ass something. I vote they make a sequel though, dont reboot it, the first one was great, just lacked more depth and action.

I believe Nolan is fully capable of pulling off what seems to have been impossible since the Richard Donner cut of Superman II, he can actually make it interesting again. There is a great mythology that can be explored when it comes to the character and villains far more interesting than Lex Luthor. In the beginning, the character of Lex Luthor wasn't even meant to become the arch nemesis that he eventually did. His character evolved over time into the fiend that we've come to associate with Kal-El/Superman. The mortal villain for Superman isn't interesting anymore. I believe that Nolan understands the world, if he's going to play a hand in it he must, and he's going to flesh it out in a way that can be appreciated. He's certainly got the chops for it given his works outside of Batman. In short, I look forward to see where this all goes.

I get you, man. I think we just have two different viewpoints on the matter, and that's okay. It's more of a healthy debate, if you ask me, we aren't attacking each other, moreso of actually instituting new ideas to each other. A rarity on this site. I like your point about Marvel and DC, although I think that if you keep a certain superhero true to it's origins and/or roots, it should not matter what company that superhero is from. For instance you talk about the opposing companies in favor of CHANGING the roots of the character(s). In that case, yes, it would matter what you can and can't do in one company, is opposite for the other company - especially when DC Comics is married to one of the six major film studios, Warner Bros. So I agree with you there. However, in the interest of KEEPING the roots of the character(s), it would not matter, I believe, which studio were to do this. This is how the source material of each character originated, gained fans, became successes, and kept them going for years - most still to this day. You keep this principles in developing and manifesting a film adaptation out of that, if done right of course, and the fanbase is there, which doesn't feel alienated because you kept the roots of a character/world they have come to love from the source material, and therefore success will most likely follow in the box office. Of course you can never predict an outcome, but for the sake of this debate of changing vs. keeping comic book roots for films, I believe that perspective plays a vital role in understanding what I mean to say...
However even after I typed all that, I think it's safe to say that we may always disagree on this issue. In which case I agree to disagree, if that has become the case. I understand you completely, and respect you heavily on this site as someone who knows what they are talking about regarding comics and the comic book film genre, I have learned things about these two subjects from you when you put me in check on either, and I enjoy your forum topics. But it's also cool to have opposing viewpoints, which we may have from time to time. You are right, it does make for good discussion and yes it does come up a lot, however on this issue we may have exhausted our debating skills and I think have pretty much reached a conclusion on the issue: we disagree lol.

Although the clipping is basically a reworded synopsis of previously released news, it is certainly comforting to hear it straight from Nolan, rather than some third-party source. I'm excited.

If this all leads to Nolan directing JLA, the after shock of awesomeness could very well blow up the planet.
At CBF: I think Ultimate Spidey captures what makes Spidey great, but fits into a modern retelling. When the Ultimate universe was first created, it was to get back to the roots of the characters, but update their origins for a new generation. Besides, Marvel and DC are two completely different companies. What you can get away with at Marvel isn't so easy at DC, and vice versa. For instance, if Nolan based his Bat-films on All-Star Batman, it wouldn't represent the true essence of the character. But Ultimate Spidey showed a younger, funnier, but still troubled Spider-Man, and for a reboot, I think that's a great starting point.
I don't mean to keep harping on ya about this...I just think it makes for a good discussion, and it seems to come up a lot lol

If Warner already finalized the 7/20/12 release date for "Batman 3," then they've no reason to go back on that. So Nolan obviously can't direct both. And if a release date has already been set, then that means Nolan's probably been confirmed as director too. He may share a story or writing credit with Goyer for "The Man of Steel" though.

I never liked superman. i thought it was stupid that when he took off his glasses and flipped his hair, nobody knew who the f*ck he was. like really you don't know. but if Nolan is working on this, maybe ill check it out. @mrman3810, Both Batman films were great and I respect Goyer very much, but he has also made some stories which aren't so great as well. But whenever these two (Nolan and Goyer) team up it's going to be good almost guaranteed.

The Narrator: The Better Man
@Mrman... Goyer is the guy who did Blade Trinity... so yeah, although he may be a cool guy, and yes has cool ideas at times, he is definitely not the main reason BB and TDK were as good as they were. No doubt he contributed thou.
Overall, this is cool. I mean we heard all this before, but I just like being reminded that Nolan is working as over-seer of the Supe's reboot... which is still an amazing thought.
