Christopher Nolan Says No 3D in The Dark Knight Rises

Christopher Nolan explains why Batman 3 isn't in 3D
Christopher Nolan revealed earlier today that the title of his upcoming Batman 3 sequel is The Dark Knight Rises. He also went onto reveal that the film wouldn't be shot in 3D, instead utilizing high-definition and IMAX cameras to capture the look and feel he wants to invoke with this highly anticipated follow-up.

Nolan talked further with The Los Angeles Times about his decision not to shoot The Dark Knight Rises in 3D. Here is what he had to say:

"We will be shooting and exhibiting the film in 2D. We want the look and feel of the film to be faithful to what has come before in the first two films. There was a large canvas and operatic sweep to 'The Dark Knight' and we want to make a film that will carry on with that look and feel. There's an intimacy at times [with spatial illusion of the 3-D effect] and we didn't want to lose scale.... Our ambition for the third movie is to complete a story that has begun. This is not starting over, this not rebooting. We're finishing something, and keeping a consistency with what's come before has real value. We're looking to do something technologically that's never been done before. Our ambitions are to make a great movie."

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

Great, now if only Peter Jackson can be persuaded to do the same thing. I would much rather have The Hobbit shot in film/IMAX with a "coverted" 3D(that I will never go see), so that we have both the beauty of film/IMAX and continuity with LOTR, plus anyone who actually wants to see it in 3d, can.
