Christopher Nolan admits that he didn't know Bane
"With Bane, the physicality is the thing. With a good villain you need an archetype, you need the extreme of some type of villainy. The Joker is obviously a particular archetype of diabolical, chaotic anarchy and has a devilish sense of humor. Bane is something we haven't dealt with in the films. We wanted to do something very different. He's a primarily physical villain. He's a classic movie monster in a way - but with a terrific brain. I think he's a fascinating character. I think people are going to get a kick out of what we've done with him.
I didn't know him very well. David S. Goyer got me a bunch of stuff on him and we looked into him. I only knew him by name, I wasn't familiar with his back story. He's a very cool character. And getting an actor like Tom Hardy to take it on, you know you're going to get something very special. Tom Hardy is somebody who really knows how to put character into every gesture, every aspect of his physicality in the way that great actors can. He's a very, very physical actor. He transforms himself and it's there in every movement. He's not afraid to look at a character from the outside as well as the inside so there's a deep psychological branch to the character but also a very, very specific awareness of how he's going to use his body and his appearance to express that character too. Christian is like that too, very much."

Christopher Nolan then went onto address the eight year span of time between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
"It will make a lot more sense to people when they see the film. But it's not a great mystery - it's the jumping-off point for the film - but it's hard for me to articulate it. I think the mood at the beginning of the film will make a lot of sense. If I had to express it thematically, I think what we're saying is that for Batman and Commissioner Gordon, there's a big sacrifice, a big compromise, at the end of the The Dark Knight and for that to mean something, that sacrifice has to work and Gotham has to get better in a sense. They have to achieve something for the ending of that film - and the feeling at the end of that film - to have validity. Their sacrifice has to have meaning and it takes time to establish that and to show that, and that's the primary reason we did that. It's a time period that is not so far ahead that we would have to do crazy makeup or anything - which I think would be distracting - but it gave them something to get their teeth into, particularly Christian Bale in terms of [portraying] this guy who has been frozen in this moment in time with nowhere to go. He really has done an incredible job figuring out how to characterize that and express that."

I didn't know Bane before Arkham Asylum.

From watching the scenes at the end of the prologue and correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it look like Bane and his men are scaling down the well on Wayne manors property? I'm thinking he knows who Batman is and of course since he is working for Ras and Talia is in on it to it only makes sense they find out who Batman is but it looks like they will fight in the batcave and that's where Bane throws down his mask. I just don't see them breaking Batmans back but this looks like its following the comics where Bane defeats Batman in the batcave.

@ChiRep-1 The Prologue was so kick ass. For the most part you can understand Bane but since it takes place on a plane there are a few moments you can't understand him.

Saw the prologue and it is something that needs to be seen a few more times. Bane is phenomenal. And he hasn't even begun what Nolan has planned for the rest of the movie. I actually could hear him quite well. Spoiler: the plane rescue was very very similar to TDK where Batman uses the skyhook to get Lao. If u haven't seen it please do.

@slysnide Seems fair. I myself am also a little skeptical about Hathaway as Catwoman. No doubt she'll be great, because she's Anne Hathaway, but there's still that something concerning me. I think she'll be in the first hour or so like you said, and then she'll pop up as Catwoman near the final 20 if not just the very end.

So glad to know that Bane is going to be the villain we had all hoped and dreamed for. He will be the ultimate villain.
@thedude1 Let me know how the prologue is (Without giving away anything of course) I'm seeing it Saturday and want to build some more excitement :)

@corey @ROFLitschristian: Keep in mind that all the leaked photos weren't officially released. And they seemed to all pertain to climax like stuff with all the street fighting. In one of Nolan's interviews last Thursday, he said besides said scenes, much of the film was shot out of view, and they're obviously not gonna talk about it. So apart from the Bane intro in the prologue, I take it Catwoman will be explored in the first hour or so, as I doubt Bane will show up a few minutes after the prologue to wreak havoc in Gotham. Probably subtly, like the Joker who popped up here and there, but didn't really take the stage until an hour into the movie. So Catwoman will probably have the first hour more or less to herself. Or at least being investigated by Batman I mean.

I'm settled Bane will blow everyone away, but now I need some more info on Catwoman. Like @corey said, there's been little-to-no talk about her.

@bruce-ha Exactly. Had he not admitted it, and Heaven forbid he gets some of his back-story wrong, comic book kids (CBKs) would be all over Nolan's ass. But this is his film, his take on Bane, and I for one can't wait to see it.

Where does Catwoman come into play? Feels like she's not even in the film. Will she be like Two-Face here..?

That's a bit strange coming from a guy who did both Batman Begins and Dark Knight. I mean, at some stage he must have scrolled through the Batman franchise roster of villains and Bane must have popped up.
Still, i think it's great of him to admit that knowing the hardcore fanbase of this franchise.

I'm seeing the prologue tonight in Charlotte NC, so pumped to see the intro to Bane. Christopher Nola is the man, just reading his comments about Bane and the story of TDKR just shows me how great a filmmaker he really is.

Still can't see the damn intro anywhere within the state of Colorado. This is a carrot that I'd chase with glee, but they won't even give me the opportunity.

@k-man @slysnide I have faith in Christopher Nolan. He hasn't let me done yet, but wait until after you see the movie to say Bane was the perfect choice. lol

@SpaceCowboy: Just wait for the prologue, and your fears will be dashed. @k-man is right on about this. Bane is intimidating, sounds scary, and is a helluva lot more dangerous on a plane than some p*ssy poisonous snakes! :P

@SpaceCowboy - No way man, I knew when they announced Bane as the new villain that he would be absolutely perfect for a Christopher Nolan adaptation. PERFECT.
Hahaha, although I can see why you were having a hard time accepting it after Batman & Robin......what a disgrace that was, eh?
Anyways, I cant tell you how pumped I am for this film! Going to be amazing!!

EXCITED! I didn't think much of Bane as a villain choice for TDKR. I guess I still just can't get over Batman & Robin. But we shall how how well Bane is tackled this Friday. Gotta get me a ticket!

"He's a classic movie monster in a way......" Sold. I know seeing Bane in TDKR will be great and choosing Bane as the villian was a good choice, but not until I see the movie will I believe he was the best pick.
