Fresh off his Oscar win for portraying Colonel Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, Christoph Waltz is ready to move to the director's chair. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Waltz will make his directorial debut with the German-language film Up and Away.

Waltz also co-wrote the script and will take a supporting role in the film, which was said to be a romantic comedy. The film will be based off Meike Winnemuth and Peter Praschl's novel "Auf und Davon," but it was said that since Waltz just recently committed to appear in Water For Elephants, he might not be able to direct the film until 2011. Here's an excerpt from the article describing the new film.

Up and Away is set in and around a dating game show. Through a series of events, the woman who runs and hosts the show must confront her callous feelings about romance, which place a greater emphasis on its marketability than emotion. "When you make feelings a commodity, it's not a feeling anymore," Waltz says.

Water for Elephants was released April 22nd, 2011 and stars Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson, Christoph Waltz, Paul Schneider, Jim Norton, Hal Holbrook, Mark Povinelli, Richard Brake. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence.
