Christina Applegate and Jean Smart Join ABC's Sam I Am
Amy Brenneman and Merrin Dungey have been cast in the potential Grey's Anatomy spinoff; the two are set to guest star in the "enhanced" two-hour episode of of the ABC hit drama designed to serve as a springboard for a potential spinoff from the hit medical drama that centers on Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh).
Michael Rapaport has been hired as the male lead in CBS' comedy pilot Fugly, which revolves around three siblings - identical twin sisters (Nikki Cox, Marissa Jaret Winokur) and a brother (Rapaport) - who buy one of the sisters (Cox) an extreme makeover and move to Hollywood to capitalize on her newfound good looks.
Melanie Griffith has signed on for a potential recurring role on CBS' Viva Laughlin!. The show, executive produced by Hugh Jackman, centers on a man (Lloyd Owen) dreaming of opening a casino in Laughlin, Nevada; Griffith will play a smart and conniving sexpot who has a romantic past with him.
Diedrich Bader has been tapped to co-star opposite Stephen Dorff in CBS' drama pilot Skip Tracer; it centers on a skip tracer (Dorff), a man who locates missing people. Bader will play his loyal friend and colleague.
Stephanie Childers has landed the female lead in ABC's comedy pilot American Family, which centers on a modern family; Childers will play the wife, a mother of three.
Jamey Sheridan has joined CBS' drama pilot Babylon Fields. The show is set in a Long Island town where the dead come to life; Sheridan will play a zombie, a former bullying man and a wife-beater.
According to Variety, Betty Thomas will direct the pilot for The CW's comedy spoof, Dash 4 Cash; the show spoofs the reality genre.
Scott Wolf is set to star in ABC's untitled Sachs/Judah comedy, which revolves around co-workers at a law firm.
Brianne Davis is on board for NBC's comedy, I'm With Stupid being directed by Peter Farrelly.
In other TV pilot news, Ty Burrell has joined Fox's comedy pilot Action News, which is set in a local news station; Burrell will play a top-notch reporter. Billy Brown and Jesse James have joined Fox's drama, NSA Innocent; Elizabeth Ho has landed a role in ABC's Women's Murder Club, and JP Walker has been added to NBC's comedy Wildlife.
