The actor/writer will be rewriting David Mamet's script
Rock takes over for David Mamet, who wrote the original draft of the film, which is a remake of the 1963 Akira Kurosawa film High and Low. Mike Nichols is on board to direct the film.
The story of the original film, which was based off the novel Kings Ransom by Evan Hunter, centers on a wealthy businessman whose family is targeted by a ruthless kidnapper. Toshirô Mifune played the businessman in the original film.
Mamet originally wrote the screenplay back in 1999 for Martin Scorsese and Scott Rudin and it wasn't said if both Scorsese and Rudin were still a part of the project.
Rock's latest film, Death at a Funeral, which hits theaters on April 16, is a remake of the 2007 film Death at a Funeral, which was directed by Frank Oz.
High and Low was released in 2010. The film is directed by Mike Nichols.
