Chris Evans on Captain America's New Costume

Chris Evans discusses Captain America's new costume and shield
Empire recently got a chance to speak with the new Captain America: The First Avenger, Chris Evans, where he gave some new details on the costume for the film.

"It's an amazing costume. Given the fact that his costume is red, white and blue, and it's tight, and it could be kind of flash and over the top - and given the fact that the movie takes place in the '40s and '50s - they've done a really good job of making it look really cool."

"I think everyone that's going to see it is going to say, 'Okay, well done. Well done. I think they got the costume right. The casting they completely ruined, but the costume they nailed!'"

The site also asked Evans about how they will go about using the character's iconic shield.

"We've been testing a lot of shields. Last time I was in London they had six shields and I had to hold each one, see if I was comfortable with each one, see which one we all thought had the right look. The thing is pretty heavy, so I'm not sure I can throw it that far! I'll give it my best shot, but hopefully they'll have some sort of stunt shield when it comes to actually chucking it!"

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further news regarding Captain America: The First Avenger, which is gearing up to start shooting later this month, as soon as we have more information.

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

They're doing wings on the Thor helmet. One of the guys from IGN who went to the set confirmed that.

i'm ok with everything but the one thing that really stands out for me is Hugo Weaving as Red Skull. i think that he's going to be badass, especially with that voice of his.

...why would you want wings on the helmet?...

What works in a comic book doesn't always work on screen.

Agreed man. Passionate humble actors are fantastic to work with, or so I imagine. :)

Nothing wrong with a humble actor. In fact, they turn out to be the better ones out there.
Harrison Ford for example. Not in it for the money. We need more actors like that.

Lol, Evans is a pretty cool guy. He's not just poking around thou. He's pretty humble when it comes to his abilities, mostly because most of his roles have been short of anything stupendous, and more in the lines of comedic hotshot. So he may think his casting was wrong because he's humble but likes the costume. He's a cool guy and honest.

its taking place in the 40's, 50's? that blows. i was hoping it would be present day. i mean how many times have we seen the origin in the animated movies. i will still see it, but my expectations wont be too high.

Of course I've heard of sarcasm! Have you ever heard of a cup of ST*U? :P
If he's talking about himself I'm cool with that. I thought he was talking about everyone in the cast. What a relief.
Thanks Messenger and Fratson for clearing that up without being a wiseacre. :P
