Captain America: The First Avenger Entertainment Weekly Cover

Chris Evans told the site that he was actually scared to take on the role of Steve Rogers at first:

"At the time, I remember telling a buddy of mine, 'If the movie bombs, I'm f--ed. If the movie hits, I'm f--ed!' I was just scared. I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear. I can't believe I was almost too chicken to play Captain America."

He also told the site that one of the reasons he took the job is because this superhero movie is more grounded in reality than others:

"The interesting thing about this character is that he's an everyman who in the course of a few minutes become a perfect human specimen. That has to create some interesting personal issues. I saw it as an opportunity to make a superhero movie that felt real, that didn't have to rely on an overabundance of fantasy elements."

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

@Dave, funny. I thought the same thing when the news was announced they were making a Cap film.

Also, Joe did Hidalgo (which I liked) and Jurassic Park 3 (which was pretty cool, if short and random). I'm sure the film will be fine.

I really wish there was a better director to this movie. It wouldve been awesome if spielberg made this (which would never wouldve happened) hes great with world war 2 and scifi

Okay, I had not seen this pictures other than the over, and I am glad I saw them, these make me feel good. Chris is not going to look too tan, too Derek Zoolander, too Owen Wilson in this movie. And since the movie is going to be realistic, Cap wouldn't need a mask in WW2 because it is a war, he would only need one when he fought Red Skull because that dude is his mortal enemy, even then he wouldn't need one.

I'm pretty sure Hugo Weaving mentioned a mask during the comic con Cap A. panel. I think he will be the best villain we've seen yet in comic book movies. Now that i think of it, other than Batman movies, we haven't had a decent villain yet, or decent portrayal of the villains. The villains in both iron man 1 and 2 were disappointing. The villains in Hulk movies were crap aswell. Wolverine movie did have Deadpool but they didn't pull it off that well. This is the first chance of having a really great villain in Marvel universe.

The movies I'm really looking forward to, though, are Green Lantern and Captain America. Thor movie looks interesting as well but not as pumped for that one.

DC is better, but my hopes for this have improved 10 fold since this article. This and the Wolverine 2 article almost start to restore my fragmented faith in Marvel.

@Moviemaniac: Superman and Wonder Woman put Captain America to shame but he's still pretty cool! :D

Of course, this is based solely on my biased opinion towards DC characters! :D

YAYYY! This movie looks SWEET! Lovin' the costume and uh, ahem... Chris Evans is super hot... you could tell he was bulky before as The Torch but here he's bulked up even more. Nice. :)

And @bruce-ha: I agree. Hugo Weaving is great!

No one has answered this... shouldnt hugo look more red since he's the red skull???? every picture ive seen of the red skull has him bald, red, and looks like a skull

  23. TheMime

Last pic..easy on the pouting man.....but other than that, PERFECT. Hugo Weaving is the ultimate "Red Skull" hands down. 3RD picture, back shot, awesome. Like the suit over the suit thing. 1st picture, just for fun, the guy in the background has a balloon caption saying "Did the serum gave him that?" or "I don't recall that thing being there before the experiment sent down" or "Can a A$$ be more perfect than that." hahahahaha.......oooooiiiiiiia. Well, anyways, every thing is perfect. guaranteed awesomeness.

@rojodiablo. i disagree with you somewhat. robert pattinson and channing tatum both suck ass at acting, yet, unfortunately they are still around and polluting whatever films they're in.
