It’s becoming a major trend for video games to be turned into movies, but it’s becoming a bigger trend to make video games out of movies. And that’s exactly what Disney has done with their new animated film Chicken Little. Buena Vista Games has released the game with the feathered bird taking on different tasks so he saves his town from aliens and gain respect from his father.

You start, obviously at the beginning, but the beginning of the film as well. Chicken Little is late for school and you have to get him there without getting in trouble. What’s really neat about this game is they show full scenes and songs from the actual movie, including the opening theme so you’re able to follow along to the movie. And the quality of the video is incredible; playing the game on a 60 inch screen made it look like I was watching the movie! Actually, the whole game pretty much follows the movie, in a round about way. The scenes are the same, but the tasks kind of take you on a wild goose, make it, wild chicken chase.


Once Chicken Little gets to school, you roll in the hallways collecting acorns just to get to gym class and get pummeled in dodge ball. I do have to say the dodge ball game is pretty fun – of course, popular vs unpopular.

After you win three games of dodge ball, it’s time for some baseball. Chicken Little decides to impress his dad by joining the baseball team, but Foxy Loxy steals his uniform and his equipment, so you’ve got to search around the town to find it. One part of this was pretty hard - going into the theater to get your jersey. I had a bit of trouble getting through to the roof on the second half of the theater. Climbing the poles up and down got a little tiring after a while, but if you’re determined to figure it out, you’ll be able to get to the top. Luckily, even when you lose all your eggs (your life), it starts back up at the point where you stopped (at least on the easy setting) so I was able to keep going even after falling down.

But the big game is finally on for CL! Smack a home run and the level is done. It’s not as easy as it sounds; you’ve got to match the buttons at the right time to hit the ball.


It’s not just Chicken Little who you get to control; his friends Abby Mallard, Runt of the Litter, and Fish are in the game too. And that includes driving around the town to deliver the paper, gather groceries, and pizza, destroying fences and whatever else is in the way.

Getting on the alien ship is where the game really turns up the heat. You start the space simulator, the first of three gets you on the ship. Abby gets to jump into an alien machine, shoot lasers and destroy the ship’s insides.

The first few levels are really fun and easy; then it gets a little more intense and a lot more fun! One of the neatest things is during the loading period (which is called ‘hatching’), Chicken Little does a few dances and you can control his dancing; I think it’s one of the first times I’ve ever seen you able to do anything while a game is loading.


One thing I didn’t like was sometimes when you’re climbing the poles, the camera does not follow you to the top and you’re forced to jump down and try it again to get the camera back to a good angle (but it does happen a few times to get a little annoying).

I would definitely recommend this game to not only fans of the Chicken Little movie, but all gaming fans. What’s been really impressive about these newer games out in the last few years are the voices, and Chicken Little is no different; Zach Braff, Garry Marshall, Steve Zaun, and Harry Shearer all do their own voices, from the film, on the game. It’s got all kinds of levels to challenge gamers of all ages. Chicken Little, the video game, is in stores now; it’s rated ‘E 10+’ for everyone ages 10 and up. It’s available on Playstation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and the PC. And if you buy it now, you get a free movie coupon to see the movie which opens in theaters November 4th.
