According to The Hollywood Reporter, Buena Vista's CG-animated Chicken Little captured the top boxoffice spot for the second consecutive session, grossing an estimated $32 million -- down a scant 20% from its $40 million debut. The 10-day gross for Chicken is $80.8 million. The tremendous hold of Chicken puts the film in some exceptional company and was all the more impressive considering the marketplace and the weekend's three new wide releases. Sony Pictures' Zathura, a PG-rated film aimed at a broad audience including families, arrived in the second spot with an estimated $14 million, which was at the high end of industry expectations. Jon Favreau directed the sci-fi adventure film, based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg, about a mysterious board game where the high stakes become real.

Buena Vista International dominated the international boxoffice this weekend, with Flightplan solidly gaining altitude with an estimated gross of $15.2 million from 3,400 prints across 39 markets and Chicken Little grossing $6.5 million from 1,634 prints in 12 territories. Flightplan, which to date has grossed $60 million internationally, was No. 1 in 15 countries, while Chicken was first in 10 territories and to date had grossed $14.5 million.

Flightplan's openings included landing the top spot in Spain with $2.5 million from 303 prints, as well as France with $2.2 million from 500 screens despite civil unrest there. Other No. 1 openings included Australia with $1.6 million from 270 prints; Russia, with $705,000 from 161 screens; and South Korea as the top-grossing English-language film, taking an estimated $2.1 million from 120 screens.
