The film explores the origins of James T. Kirk, Spock and the crew of the USS Enterprise from the original Star Trek series and how these iconic characters came together. According to rumors, the story involves an elder Spock (Nimoy) and a group of Romulans (led by Nero, played by Bana) being transplanted into the past where Spock must prevent the Romulans from irreparably damaging the timeline. To do so, he will have to enlist the assistance of his younger self (Quinto).
Star Trek hits theaters nationwide on May 8.
Star Trek was released May 8th, 2009 and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

Further thought...I think Paramount is trying to pull a "Battlestar Galactica" type 're-imagining' with "Star Trek". "Galactica" of course became a gi-normous hit, while a lot of fans initially said it'd be dead within a week. It's all a matter of perspective. I still think I'll be sitting there shaking my head every five minutes. You can update a classic and not trick it out so much that it becomes unrecognizable. Kind of like the way this poster makes The Enterprise look: a blurred vision.

Editboy, with all due respect i think you're taking a blinkered view. you admit you're a purist, which is fine and perfectly understandable but the franchise needed something like this 'cos it was dead in the water. there's no need to fear change. i'm gonna give it the benefit of doubt and judge it after i've seen it.
i've got no problem with Kirk banging Uhura - he's banged everything else with a pulse so makes sense he'd have a pop at the fittest bird on the bridge walking around in a tiny skirt!
Kirk n Spock scrapping. not sure about this one. need to see it in context. i reckon Spock would calmly kick Kirks arse every time though.
Space skydiving - why not? we've had oxygen assisted skydiving, hangliding, base jumping etc for years now.
when the original series was made and aired the world was a very different place. the interracial kiss was banned, women were deemed sex objects with little else to contribute, special effects were probably great at the time but laughably sh*t in hindsight. it's 2009 now and things have moved on. this is Star Trek: Regeneration.

'Reimagined'. The first time I saw that word was on a teaser 1-sheet for Tim Burton's "Planet Of The Apes" remake. I liked the way the word sounded and what it conjured up creatively. Over the past eight years I've learned to feel disgust and fear whenever I hear it mentioned or see it in print.
Saw the new trailer for "Star Trek" before "Watchmen" during the midnight show. As I watched Kirk and crew doing a whole bunch of over the top things, I just kept shaking my head. And that head shaking exceeded the number of times I did so during "Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull". Here are just a few of the reasons why the new "Star Trek" is going to suck. Yes, True Believers, I said SUCK!
First off, all the action scenes look like something out of one of the "Star Wars" prequels. Every frame is filled with a flurry of phaser firings, ships exploding, and general over-the-top mayhem. Jeez, reel it in, would ya! This is not "Star Trek"...at least not the Kirk, Spock, and McCoy version we should be getting.
Also:
- Kirk has a relationship with Uhura?
- Kirk and Spock have a fist fight on the bridge?
- Space skydiving?!
WTF! Again, this is not "Star Trek"! Call me a purist (which I am and where I speak from), but that's the way I see it.
The minute I saw the first still of the new Enterprise (overly bulbus warp engines?) I knew this thing was going down the wrong path. Plus a couple of images of the new bridge, which some have said looks like something you'd see in an Apple Store.
Big Red Flag!: J.J. Abrams never was a "Star Trek" fan. But he LOVES "Star Wars"! Nothing wrong with that...BUT THE TWO DO NOT MIX! However, I'm sure all the fans who hold those sometimes obnoxious prequels high above the alter of George Lucas worship, will drink this head shaker in without question.

Nice, very basic and abstract, lol @ phil's comment on the lawsuit and the whole tampax connection.
I'm liking the warp speed effect, But this should have just been the Enterprise, in space probably the faces of the crew surrounding, slightly faded with a giant star strek sign faded in space with the Enterprise in the star trek sign with the crew faces surrounding the sign.
