Heston won a best actor Oscar in 1959 for his work in Ben-Hur. He was an iconic staple of the 50s and 60s, playing such characters as Moses in The Ten Commandments and the title character of El Cid.
Heston is perhaps best known for his work in the science fiction films Planet Of The Apes and Omega Man, which was recently turned into a Hollywood blockbuster starring Will Smith titled I Am Legend. The actor also appeared in the often quoted Soylent Green.

It's not a big deal the guy supported guns. I think it's a little disrespectful to say "f*ck him" even if i don't care about his death.

Look at all the films he appeared in over the course of his 60-year career: The Greatest Show on Earth, The Ten Commandments, Touch of Evil, Ben-Hur, The Greatest Story Ever Told, Planet of the Apes, The Omega Man, Soylent Green ... and that's just the particularly famous ones. He continued to pop up here and there into the 2000s

TCM Remembers Charlton Heston (1924-2008)
Charlton Heston, the strong-jawed, stalwart leading man who shot to fame in big budget epics such as The Greatest Show on Earth, The Ten Commandments and his Oscar® winning lead in Ben-Hur (1959), died at his Beverly Hills home on April 5. The cause of death was not reported, but in 2002, Heston publicly revealed that he was possibly suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He was 84.
He was born John Charles Carter on October 4, 1923 in Evanston, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. His father, a lumber mill operator, relocated his family to St. Helen, Michigan, where young Charles developed his young physique playing in the rural woods. He relocated to Chicago when his parents divorced and his mother remarried a factory plant manager. It was during high school that Heston discovered the drama department.
He attended Northwestern University on a theater scholarship but, like most men of his generation, his civilian life was interrupted by the war. At 19, he joined the Army Air Force. After his four year stint with the military, Heston resumed his acting pursuits and moved to New York City with his wife, Lydia (she was a fellow theater student at Northwestern; they married in 1944).

he died young. it was more of a loss in my opinion. he barely got to live life. where as heston wanted to shoot everything in it. heath didnt support drugs or guns. thats my point

Rad and marc, no harm meant, but u guys keep saying that this guy wouldn't be missed if he wasn't an actor. That's what i tried to say when heath died, but everybody went off on me. This guy supported guns, heath overdosed, there's really not a huge difference there when u think about it. Guns and drugs kill people, simple as that, but the fact o the matter is, heston didn't die from a gun, he prolly died of natural causes. Heath did, however, die from an overdose. Ya get what i'm tryin to say?
But i don't know what i have a say in this anyway, heston is before my time. He's 84 and i'm 14! lol I hardly knew him as an actor, let alone care about him! So, yeah, i guess i do agree with tom, but not for the same reasons. lol

I CAN MISS WHOMEVER I WANT TO MISS RAD.. just maybe I have a shrine of ole Charlton in my bedroom with candles that I light everynight and watch vigil as he sleeps.. perhaps I happened to buy a pair of his authentic "loafers" he used to wear when he went to pick up the sunday paper lying in his driveway, does that make me weird or indifferent? I like to think so.
