Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke will direct the fantasy-drama If I Stay for Summit Entertainment.

According to Variety, Hardwicke and Summit had parted ways in December over issues with her directing The Twilight Saga's New Moon, the second Twilight installment. Chris Weitz then took the New Moon assignment.

If I Stay will be based on Gayle Forman's novel of the same name, due to be published this spring by Dutton Children's Books. The story centers on a gifted classical musician and her indie rockstar boyfriend who's forced to choose between life and death when she's in a car accident with her family.
