Casper the Friendly Ghost to Haunt Theaters with Reboot

Casper readies himself for a remake
Casper readies himself for a remake
Casper The Friendly Ghost might be making a return to the silver screen for a new live-action project from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. It would be the first theatrical endeavor featuring the amicable specter since Casper debuted in the summer of 1995.

Classic Media owns the rights to the Harvey Comics character, and they will team up with Universal and Amblin for this new comedic adventure. The reboot will feature a mixture of live-action and CGI elements, much like the original feature length Casper starring Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci. Shooting in 3D has also been discussed, although it's not a certainty at this point.

No story details were given, although a comic book entitled Casper and the Spectrals was published last year, which could serve as a basis for this new on-screen endeavor. The updated series follows Casper and his ghost friends Wendy the Witch and Hot Stuff as they team up to fight the evil ghosts of Spooky Town, a city within New York City that is unseen by the human eye.

No writer or director is attached at this time.

yeah but you would think they would care more about it seeing how they could make more money on original ideas instead of making reboots of the same ass stories

Hollywood doesn't care what we think, if more than enough actors said no to a reboot. I bet Hollywood still won't listen to them.

Let's reboot Lost in space says one person. I second that another votes
But what about the people of our world they should have a say, a third but rough voice said.
First voice clears his throat, people don't care as long as we produce films they will watch it.

im honastly curious if hollywood has any idea tht when ever they say they are going to do some reboot, that everyone gets pissed about it, seriously i dont think i ever seen a good majority of ppl sayin tht some reboot wass a good idea or tht they are exited for it. not too mention like someone mentioned below, that pretty much every reboot (besides batman begins, or bond) has failed. i rlly wonder if hollywood still hasnt gotten the message yet tht reboots are getting annoying and no one cares about them

personally i loved the one with Christina Ricci i dont think it needs a remake i think it is a classic the way it was, and something else i realized if Hollywood keeps remaking things then our children will never have the opportunity to say a film is a classic because by then their will be 4 or 5 versions of the film out and about, i can still say that The Wizard Of Oz and A Christmas Story are still classics but then again i hear they wish to remake both those films. wait to go Hollywood kill of our childhood favorite films and make sure future generations wont have a chance at it, *ssholes

ok i grew up watching casper when i was a kid and i was always amazed by it and i still am...but they just need to stop it with all the 3d sh*t...honestly..its good with some movies and others they should have even tried it...just stop while you are ahead. come on hollywood you think people actually care about a giant kids pop out book in movie form?

yea @j_a i agree, i also love kids movies like these or cartoons such as the classics from the past./todays. casper will 4ever b a true classic. but ya know every movie from the past seems to get rebooted for sum reason. and for sum reason it ends up coming out worst than the 1st which makes the org film seem like a masterpiece. all in all im just saying that if this gets a reboot, to get it right. the only other reboot that got it something right, was batman begins from.. batmans' 1989. i dont think a reboot is needed but it wouldnt hurt either, it would prob have been best to make part2..u know with the same actors', 1 of those 20 years later or sumthing. then that would have been sweet! if the story was right.

I don't really care. I mean, Casper's a great guy -er, ghost- but my interest in Casper is dead. I don't like the "idea" of rebooting a childhood memory, but if they do reboot it -they will- I won't promote the destruction of Universal Studios or anything. I may even rent it.

The original was fantasitc... But this is a crap idea... If they want to do a reboot of a childhood clasic show, why not He-Man? Dalph was great, but a magic door key story with Cournty Cox was a bit unreal....

Casper was PERFECT the actors were DULL and boring. the story was BLAH. casper (the movie) was so yesturday. i dont think theres 1 single kid today who would stay still and watch it. maybe the 1st 15-20mins. then they start playing w a pillow or sumthing. If this is rebooted, they gotta get the story right and make it sumwat like scooby doo. then it would b enjoyable. other wise just leave the org alone.

@Daveactor7...Damn its been a while since ive seen the Casper movie, i liked it when it came out, i see no reason to do a reboot when u can just go back and watch the other movie...

@Jimthar...dont really see a demand for anything Casper these days when kids are probably not familiar with him, so yeah i think this is just an excuse for running out of ideas for films at this point
