Josh,
Great catch with the reference to Doc Holida.....err Hollywood, I'm sure you meant. It even had the older and wiser "Doc" (Hudson) for crying out loud. The parallels are stunning. Yeah it was a story of the fast-passed guy who learns to slow down and smell the roses, but it was also about Route 66, Americana and the realization that you may not be as happy as you thought you were, even though you had everything you thought you wanted out of life.
One thing I like about Pixar movies, that all the other CGI animation studios often fail to ad to their films is a poignant message, that more often than not can manage to make you think and bring a tear to your eye in the process. And that's why Pixar leads and others follow.
And as far as, Cars being Pixar's lesser installments, I don't think they have a lesser installment. I thought that UP wasn't going to be as good as the others, and I was glad to be proven wrong. I can't wait for this, Monster Inc 2, or Toy Story 3.
I will say this though, I'm a bit concerned that they are leaving Radiator Springs. I would have preferred it, if the story centered around a conglomerate moving in, to try to take over the managing of Radiator Springs, in the attempt to try to commercialize the town into a profit machine, while also in the process oust the original residents, causing Lightning McQueen to use his connections in the racing world to hold a winner takes all race in the town itself, thus teaching that sometimes the little guy does win when honor has his back. There is only Mater mentioned. What about the rest. Doc Hudson will have to be recast, since Paul Newman has passed on, but the other characters made the movie also.

Cars was probably one of the only Pixar films that I didn't like. Sequel would suck even more

"Cars is bottom of the Pixar heap as far as I'm concerned - but then Pixar films are like sex - even when its bad it's good. They should keep breaking ground with original projects and leave the sequels to Buzz & Woody alone."
--------------
I agree with that, except the last sentence; Toy Story 2 was a fantastic sequel and I hope the third is too.
But what works about Pixar is their originality, and Cars just didn't have that. It was like Thomas the Tank Engine meets Doc Holiday. And the concept of cars (a human technology) existing in a world without humans was just off-putting. It worked in Toy Story because the characters' story was relative to their role in the lives of humans.

BUT it could be that the reason they're taking more time over it is because they want to make sure its better than the first one? Exactly what they did with Toy Story 2...

I didn't care for the first one, it's my least favorite Pixar movie. Will prob skip this.

The first one was fine, but not enough to watch a sequel. I'd rather see a Monster Inc. 2
