Author Stephen King reacts to the news of a Carrie remake
"I've heard rumblings about a Carrie remake, as I have about The Stand and IT. Who knows if it will happen? The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book. Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White... hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast. I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the David's: Lynch or Cronenberg."
The Carrie remake is still in very early stages and, like Stephen King says, "who knows if it will happen?" However, our original report from yesterday indicated MGM and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa want to be more faithful to Stephen King's novel than the original movie, so perhaps the author might get behind this project after all. We'll just have to wait and see.
Carrie was released November 3rd, 1976 and stars Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, William Katt, Betty Buckley, Nancy Allen, John Travolta, P.J. Soles. The film is directed by Brian De Palma.

I can't imagin to see another version from the classic horrror movie from 1976 "CARRIE" directed by Bryan de Palma . When I saw this movie for the first time I was barely fifteen years old (15) fortunaltely previously I was lucky to read the book indeed. But Sissy Speacek and Piper Laurie made a wonderful performance on this film. the Music score peformed by Pino Donaggio was a Masterpiece!!! Every single scene fit so perfectly with the music. I consider the most reamarkable scene at the Prom Night few minutes ago before "Carrie White" was pleading with a lot of innocence to the crown from the party and her classmate Sue was trying to avoid the accident from the "bucket of Blood" and so on, the whole scene was so amazing and unforgettable. I must confess taht I couldn't take off from my mind the music from this named scene in so many years!!! This was a spectacular and unforgettable movie. I concern the thechnology can improbe so many things that wasn't impossible toi make from the 70's... But just think about it, can you imagine to se a new movie remake from "Gone With The Wind" or "The Godfather" , I can't vizualise it, we can't replace the original actors, it never be the same....

I can't see Lindsay Lohan as Carrie. I'd rather see someone else in the role.

I'd like to see an IT remake as well. And one that is actually scary, and not laughable. Tim Curry was the best part of the original.

Being "more faithful to the novel" doesn't automatically make it better, it always annoys me when filmmakers say that to justify making something. The TV version of The Shining was "more faithful to the novel" and it sucked.

I hope this "remake" trend will be killed off sometime soon in Hollywood. And they don't award Christopher Nolan for "original screenplay" while there are so many script pages based on previous script pages. Damn it! Who even wants a Carrie movie remake?! I read the novel, it was good "on the pages", the movie was not good at all. At least they need to shoot it directly for DVD.

@gldphishy...In my opinion, i think Vincent D'Onofrio from Law and Order:CI could play a good Pennywise

I ask why to....!! It was made into a film back in 1977 directed by Brian De Palm ...then again in 2002 it became a television film based on the novel "Carrie" ... ..Oh we can't forget ...(LOL!) "The Rage: Carrie 2" ......and then for Laughs ...there was also the Broadway musical, "Carrie" which was based on the Stephen King novel to!.....

a new carrie might be good if done well. I'm saying remake IT...that could be a nice big-screen project as the original was a tv series

I think Lindsey would be great in a mad cow role, honestly think the only movie to look forward to from King in the near future would be "the Gunslinger".

@DB23 ... that pretty much hit the nail in the head. imagination and being original seems to dead in the horror genre nowadays. Although i think scream4 is the best we had in a long time.

Look, for those who really care, there is absolutely no doubt we are unfortunately living and witnessing, the worst period of horror films. The writers and directors have absolute no clue what they are doing. They really are clueless. The worst generation. So far away from reality and the foundations of horror films, it is unbelievable. The fact they are doing remakes is another way of saying, I can't be bothered to understated the true art of making a great Horror film. For goodness sake, have a bit of respect the genre, and go back to black and white if you have too. In fact I demand it. Horror only works one way and one way only. The way it was done in the old days. STOP the bullsh*t remakes, and quit trying to impress us with the digital crap. It doesn't work Hollywood. Don't you get that. Before even attempting or even thinking about making a horror film, go learn what it really means to make a horror film. Sorry for my rant but makes me mad.

im not against reboots or remakes, im against stupid movies. I really dont care if a classic was rebooted, i just wished sum day sum1 would actually get sumthing right. Weather any1 likes it or not.. not every 80s film was ever done right, they were just great films in that time since it was new to all of us, kinda like blk n white tv switching to color. now its going to 3d, So now a days when movies r remade, such as scary movies, they dont really scare us anymore. because most of us grew up w that. (if that makes secne) Alot of people perfer old classics than remakes and thats only cause most of u r not letting go of the past. and ur comparing sumthing like say.."nightmare on elm street w the remake" (which i actually liked alot) But again... if only sum1 would get it right, it just might bypass the classic. With that said.. CARRIE is not award winning, but its not a stupid movie either. So whoever makes this remake (if its done)... make it good. and that goes for all remakes that r coming up.
