Captain America Will Be Set in World War II and Will Not Star Matthew McConaughey

Contrary to earlier rumors, it seems that when The First Avenger: Captain America hits the screen, the Star-Spangled Avenger will not be played by Matthew McConaughey. Our friends at IESB.net spoke to Marvel Entertainment executive Kevin Feige, who also confirmed that the film will be a period piece, set during World War II.

Feige says that the film will be an origin piece, detailing how underweight Steve Rogers becomes America's super-soldier, in order to help America fight against the Axis powers. Feige says that, much like Iron Man, the film will be very faithful to the comics.

It was also confirmed that while Captain America's famous shield is seen briefly in Tony Stark's lab in Iron Man, the presence of the shield is just an Easter Egg for the fans - not an actual part of the story of either film.

Finally, Feige says that rumors of Matthew McConaughey playing Captain America are just that - rumors, and are completely false.

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

ok, apinney..... the shield turning up in Iron-Man isn't a link to the Avengers nor does it mean Stark has had contact with Hulk or S.H.I.E.L.D!
it was put into the movie just for a bit of fun. it doesn't mean anything other than that. how do i know this?.... cause John Favreau said it!

So one has to wonder; when did Stark and Fury meet? The Cap's shield would have been where prior to Stark having it? SHIELD HQ? US ARMY? CIA or FBI? Obviously Steve Rogers frozen body is already at SHEILD HQ right? Hence Starks' line about having something on ice at the end of Incredible Hulk?

Ya, the heroes of WW2 were a group called the invaders. Torch of 1940s is completely dif. from torch of the Four. And i think i'm gonna try looking up the shield. See if there's a vid or pic or somethin

Did I say MAtthew was about to destroy his image as an actor?Well I must have been high.He is a sh*t head whose best film is Sahara. He shat on the rest.Although I believe this was gonna suck, havin Matthew on the project could be a beautiful chance see himself proving to the whole world that he can f*ck every film up in which he features.

i just realized, since they're making the movie a war movie, they better include namor, toro, human torch, union jack, and spitfire, plus, they should go up until cap and bucky die/ disappear. This means they're going to have to have the Red Skull, and Baron Zemo, and several others, and hell y not ad the canadian soldier Logan lol. but thats my opinion of what the should do. plus add Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos. that would really tie the marvel universe together.

It will be interesting indeed. A superhero film, set nearly 70 years ago. Certainly puts a different spin on things. And no Matthew McConaughey either. Not exactly a bad thing in my book.
