Captain America grabs $4 million from midnight screenings
Paramount and Marvel Entertainment's Captain America: The First Avenger got off to a strong start in midnight runs, grossing $4 million as it debuted in 2,000 theaters.

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment... Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the 'Super-Soldier Serum' and bombarded by 'vita-rays.' Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and leader of the Avengers.

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

@k-man are you F%&@ serios?! your seriosly going to complain about a guy carrying a shield the whole movie yet have a 300 avatar? lol i know your welcome to your opinion an all that but please dont insult the fans for enjoying what they love. Im not gonna lie. Im a "fanboy" an as a CA reader since i was six i thought it was a dam good representation of one of my favorite fictional characters. Your gonna hate it cuz it was "campy" Its a friggin comic comic character from the 40's! its supposed to be campy! It was just what a superhero movie needs to be, Great action, decent yet not overblown special effects, and an underdog people can relate to. This was the best comic based movie this summer. nuff said.

This movie was TERRIBLE......an absolute waste of my time (and that's coming from someone who got to see it for free, so it's not like I felt cheated out of cash).
How can you guys say this was good? There was nothing to it......AT ALL. It was just a guy in an american flag outfit running and throwing a shield, running and throwing a shield, over and over again, the ENTIRE time. It was absolutely mindless.
There were no good characters, no emotional investments, not even any really good, MOTIVATED action sequences. It was campy from start to finish, the music sucked and the story was an absolute joke. I could have written this film in less than 20 minutes.

People, you guys seriously need to stop settling on crap and praising it as something it's not just because you are partial to the subject matter (and/or clearly in denial).....because by praising it, you are only going to get more horrible movies.

Are ALL of you really too young to remember what it was like during the days when the STORY came first and mindless action came last??? I am constantly amazed how people can walk out of a theater these days after seeing a film with the worst story in the world and say it was great just because it had a few big explosions.......wake the hell up. There is more to a good movie than that!

Captain America has won the weekend. Boxofficemojo.com reports CA made 25.7 million on Friday and Harry only made 14.6. CA is on pace for a 66 million dollar weekend while Harry may not even hit 50 million dollars.

Seeing it tonight with about 5 or 6 other people. I believe this will topple Harry Potter from the top spot this weekend. Especially since Potter has been falling off big time at the box office.
