Caprica gets the boot in its first season
Entertainment Weekly broke the news, carrying a statement from Syfy stating, "The remaining first run episodes of Caprica - airing Tuesdays at 10/9c - will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2. These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series."
Executive Vice President of Syfy Mark Stern cited low ratings as the reason for cancellation, saying, ""We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series. Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season."
Another spin-off, Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome, which was announced last week, is still being produced at this time.

I joked about this once with a friend... the spin-off would be called The X-Files: The X-Tra Files.
And it would of course have to have Doggett and Reyes. :D
(but withOUT Scully cuz that whole Scully/Doggett/Reyes "friendship" triangle was just weird.)

@Lane1 and I loved that show! But I'm talking about one dealing with the X-FILES and the FBI like the original show did.... The Lone Gunmen while very underrated was a spin off that was more comical you know I'd think a nice serious x-files spin off with a new cast that are as interesting as Mulder & Scully would be nice.

I never got to see that one. One of these days I'm going to see everything Master Carter has done...

Oh! @Narrator I wanted to also throw out there that you should check out Millennium, with Lance Henrikson. It's also created by X-Files creator Chris Carter. It's a LOT darker then X-Files, but very good as well. It wasn't tied up very well with it's conclusion, but it was heavily involved with an X-Files episode of the same name, that I felt was a decent conclusion on that show. It also had Terry O'Quinn as a semi-regular on it.

@ThaJackaL (originally): They already made a spin-off series. It was called The Lone Gunmen, lol.

@Narrator: You're welcome. :)
@REAL: Its not about winning... but it sure helps so I'll count it. :P
@Thebothofyou: He was also in 2 episodes of The X-Files. "Aubrey" in Season 2 and "Trust No1" in Season 9 (which I also suggest watching if you haven't seen that ep yet, Supes.) :)

The Narrator: The Better Man
@Lane, and @REAL, thanks. I enjoyed Fight the Future for what it was to me; paranormal, investigative entertainment. I'll try and see if I can get the seasons piece by piece on Netflix (via dvd) and get back to you guys. Thanks again.

The Real Lex Luthor
people don't get it the first movie was like "TheNarrator" said a bridge in the storyline going on in the seasons 5, and 6 while the 2nd movie was a stand alone picture since it's been 6 years since the show ended, and they had to find a way to bring back Mulder into the collective from hidding, and so they went with a story which didn't involve Aliens which is fine since not ALL the shows episodes were about aliens... I thought both movies were good first one was great.
The 2nd felt a bit off to some people because they were expecting an ALIEN storyline or something like that continues the first movie which was impossible since the first movie came out in the 90s, and the 2nd in 2008.
I would like to see a 3rd movie, and maybe a spin off XFiles series with a new cast in it... But deff would like to see more Mulder & Skully on the big screen, and I heard if they make another movie it would involve 2012 so look for more news on that in the next 5 months.
If there is a movie to be made it will be shot next year...

As per usual, you win, Lois...... :) Better, more detailed description then I could give.
I wasn't slamming Fight the Future, either, if that's what you thought I meant. Just that, like you said, it fills in in between s5 and s6. :)

@Todd: Um... the second movie was not rushed in the least. The show ended in 2002 and the movie didn't even come out til 2008. How do you rush something 6 years in the making? lol
They definitely wanted to get something released for the fans, but it didn't require a rushed production on their part. To you and @Cyn, please read all my comments which were previously posted. Ask me anything about The X-Files. Trust me, I know everything there is to know about the series/movies/actors/characters, etc.

@TheNarrator: "I own and enjoy "Fight the Future" but I've never seen the X-Files series."
Blasphemy! lol
Honestly, as @REAL said, "Fight The Future", while I wouldn't call it a filler movie stands well enough on its own, but the storyline is actually continued straight from the show. As I was saying earlier (if you've read all my comments), the five minute scene in the movie where they explain what happened with the "alien colonists" was all just the conclusion of a culmination of events that the show had been building up to in its first 5 seasons. The first film was actually filmed (the acting parts anyway) during the summer break in between seasons 4 and 5 and released in the summer between seasons 5 and 6 (the reason 5 had the least amount of episodes than any season at 20). The movie was meant to bridge the gap in between season 5's finale and the season 6 premiere (it actually showed scenes from the movie as part of the "previously on" segment at the beginning of the episode when it aired). So while the movie is great for fans and non-fans of the show alike, you're really missing all the benefits the show had leading up to that point.
As for my opinion on the show itself, its mostly good. I've heard different stories from even the die-hards of the series who had different opinions than other die-hards. I felt the best seasons were 2 and 3 because the mythology episodes had the best writing those years. Season 1 was good for being what launched the series, but its mostly comprised of mainly stand alone episodes. The mythology introduced there doesn't even really start getting interesting until season 2. I would suggest watching atleast the first six seasons. While season 7 was the last to have both David and Gillian together as leads, it was mostly comprised of "comedic" episodes, non-scary, and hardly any mythology at all (and what little was shown was pretty lackluster). Depending on your taste you might even want to skip season 7 altogether and go straight to 8. I've heard from a number of fans that they thought the stand alones in season 7 (even some that were funny) were boring to them compared to earlier seasons. But season 8 had better stand alones, less comedic writing, and stronger mythology arcs that went back all the way to season 1 and its pilot episode. Season 9... well. lol, what can I say about season 9? :) If you watch the show in its entirity you can see the differences and major changes that were made that year. It was the weakest of the whole series, though there are a handful of episodes worth mentioning. Again, the first 6 seasons are what made the show whole, to most people (and I'm talking non-die-hards there).

And "Fight the Future" is a filler movie really, between season 5 and season 6.

@Narrator The only thing I didn't care for with X-Files is the latter 2 seasons. The first 7 seasons are legendary, if you ask me. Great writing (especially the 1st season, it's prob the best of the show, really), disturbing/interesting villains, and of course Mulder and Scully's relationship/chemistry is phenomenal.
While I know @Lane liked the entire show, I wasn't as keen on the final 2 seasons. They introduced 2 new main characters, one of which was good, the other just annoying to me, and it felt like the show was really dragging on past it's expiration date. But, like I said, the initial 7 seasons? Some of the best television you could watch.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Wow. I feel bad for the guy. :(
@Lane and @REAL, I own and enjoy "Fight the Future" but I've never seen the X-Files series. Since you know my tastes pretty well @REAL, do you suggest it or no?
@Diaigma, I totally agree with @REAL. LOST ended very well; giving our heroes closure, while leaving some things unanswered, which is the way it should be. Anyone expecting more is hoping for the impossible and unrealistic. Also, as you said TLA ended very well. I wonder how Smallville will end. I have to catch up on the series.

In the beginning I thought BSG was boring, until the second season came I began to enjoy it.

As of the X-files, back then I was hoping it would be a trilogy, just focus on the alien invasion thing. But done in a way that would scare and thrill us.
I would have planned it this way. To start off I Want to Believe, then further the story line to the agents capture at the end of the second film, leading up to Mulder Fox escaping in the last, wild action, leaping around, car chases, as he tires to warn the government of an invasion, at the end the invasion takes place. Well that's what I would have done. One thing I forgot, an excellent tightly written script that would make Independence Day seem like yesterdays garbage.

I never felt BSG was boring, dunno how you got that out of it.. just me I guess.

BSG is one of those shows where you have to watch from the beginning, other wise you'll be lost. I do agree that it was boring, but its worth it when the action comes in. It's more of an emotional drama.
Caprica is the same. You can't just jump in and expect it to be good. Its a character building show, well both are.

And as @Lane1 pointed out already, it was financially successful.

"Chris Carter said that if I Want to Believe proved successful, he would propose that a third movie return to the television series' mythology and focus on the alien invasion foretold within the series, due to occur in December 2012."

@Todd89 - are they making a 3rd XFiles movie? that would be great. I really liked the first one too - it seemed "epic" as compared to the series. A 'bigger' story. The second seemed like an extended episode of the series. Hoping they give us something "epic" 3rd time around.
