Cameron Diaz Replaces Sandra Bullock in 'Annie'

The actress will be taking on the role of Miss Hattigan, who was previously being played by Sandra Bullock.

Cameron Diaz has boarded Columbia Pictures' upcoming musical adaptation Annie. Sandra Bullock was previously up for the role, but lost interest.

The film will be set in a modern day environment and centers on an orphan named Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis), who is confined to an orphanage run by a cruel supervisor named Agatha Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). She is sent to Oliver Warbucks' (Jamie Foxx) home for a short time and convinces the wealthy industrialist to help her find her parents. Along the way, Miss Hannigan, her evil brother, Rooster, and a female partner scheme up a plan to impersonate her family and gain the rewards.

Will Gluck is directing from a script he wrote with Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. Will Smith and Jay-Z are producing with James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tyran Smith.

Production is slated to begin this fall.

Annie comes to theaters December 19th, 2014 and stars Rose Byrne, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Bobby Cannavale, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Quvenzhané Wallis, David Zayas, Daniel Flaherty. The film is directed by Will Gluck.
