Saoirse Ronan joins the cast of Byzantium
The story centers around a vampire mother who turns her only daughter into a vampire as well. They sometimes pose as sisters to lure in their victims. Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton will play this deadly duo on screen.
Neil Jordan will direct Byzantium from an original screenplay by Moira Buffini, who recently wrote the Gemma Arterton drama Tamara Drewe. Production is set to begin in October from am $11 million budget.
Stephen Woolley will produce, and here's what he had to say about the project, which first came up when the producer revisited the Angela Carter novel The Company of Wolves.
"I love the horror genre and we've been working on this for three or four years. I sent it to Neil and he liked the script. We'd both recently revisited Angela Carter's book and it was just chance that when I called [Jordan], we were thinking along the same lines."
Byzantium comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Saoirse Ronan, Gemma Arterton, Caleb Landry Jones. The film is directed by Neil Jordan.

I'm really hoping this will be a real vampire movie with action, and thrills, not no romantic Twilight crap, No disrespect to any one who likes Twilight, but come on, What happened when Vampires were badass.

@MidwestPride And I don't believe I went "gaga" here. I just said it was stupid, as Hobbit is going to be a surefire cash cow. But as my buddy @ejk1 pointed out to me just yesterday, she has other projects lining up that may eventually net her that little bald gold man, so she'll likely come out on top regardless. Either way, the personal insult was unneeded, but amusing.

@ejk1 @MidwestPride I didn't even know this argument was happening since nobody tagged me properly :P

@MidwestPride Well, it's fine to have a different opinion. I for one don't care if she's in The Hobbit or not. Ronan has to make the decisions she believes are best, and if they work out for her, great, if not, then oh well, failure is a part of life sometimes. Only time will tell if she comes to regret her decision to leave The Hobbit. But for the future, treat personal attacks as if using them is beneath you. It doesn't take much to become a pariah.

@ ejk1: Nope. Just trying to keep up to date hence my consecutive posts. I admit my post at Dan was uncalled for; I'm just tired of people going gaga of "The Hobbit" and people saying "Like OMG I cannot believe that one actor dropped out! He be crazy!" since I'm looking forward to it. I have a sibling who is in the entertainment business and, in her situation, choosing projects isn't easy when you're in demand. People can't keep things in perspective.

@MidwestPride What are you, obsessed with Ronan? Three straight articles you just commented on. You made you point on the first, now you're just attacking people. Knock it off, newbie, and play nice.

So this is one of those projects she chose to do over The Hobbit? Stupid.

Read an article about the play and its screen writer who decided she wants it to be like Let the Right One. Jordan may do something like Interview with the Vampire since the play lends itself towards that structure. The potential is breath new life into this beaten genre is BIG. Be prepared to be surprised.

I recently watched The Way Home with Ronan and she really is great. Arterton was good in Alice Creed plus that is one gorgeous woman and Neil Jordan? Well damn this could be something either really great or really stupid.

Should be cool and with only 11 million? If done right it can generate serious profits. But please, can we get a break from leeches? I want more werewolves on scree :/

I'll always watch a film with Arterton in it and I'm a fan of Ronan also, especially after Hanna. No way I miss this.

It'll be interesting to see Gemma Arterton as a vampire.
