Bryan Singer to Visit Excalibur

Warner Bros. is developing a remake of the 1981 John Boorman-directed Excalibur, as a potential directing vehicle for Bryan Singer, who is producing.

According to Variety, WB and Legendary Pictures have labored for months to pull together the rights to the film, which Singer will produce with Julie Yorn.

Inspired by Thomas Malory's 15th century work, and scripted by Rospo Pallenberg and Boorman, Excalibur explores the myth of King Arthur, complete with the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin the wizard and the quest for the Holy Grail to save Arthur's life. The original picture broke such talent as Helen Mirren (who played the evil Morgana), Liam Neeson (Sir Gawain), Gabriel Byrne, Patrick Stewart and Ciaran Hinds.

Singer hasn't set a writer yet.

Who said anything about thinking you liked Taken better, Vanboy? Looks like you're misreading comments. When you said that it reminded you of Man on Fire, anyone would have assumed that you at least liked the two equally. You didn't give any reason for someone to not think that. My immediate reaction, however, wasn't "I can't believe he likes Taken better than Man on Fire." It was "I can't believe he just compared Taken to Man on Fire." Idiot.

To true, Mr. Vis. Man on Fire blazes past Taken.

I did not say, that Taken was better than Man on Fire, did I VIS? You're reading into comments incorrectly.

Man On Fire is so many steps ahead of Taken I can't even come up with a humorous metaphor to differentiate the two.

Excalibur came out in 1981 ..from my reaserch it grossed $34,967,437 USD, and was the 18th most successful film of that year.!!

..I love Excalibur from 1981 ...another remake ...God No ...I guess the rent is due!!! Why Warner Bros. is looking to a barely classic film for a redo rather than simply adapting the story anew is beyond me.

I remember when Bryan Singer was "Cool" but that was over 14 years when "The Usual Suspects" came out .. After that most of his films just are bad or suck or have no "Originality" I.E. "Apt Pupil" .. "Superman Returns" ...and I even heard he is making a "Battlestar Galactica" fim!!!

    Stop the madness Hollywood!

It was just a rumor. It's been rumored for a while that he would come back for another X-flick, but...I won't hold my breath lol

Agreed. But I didn't know he had Magneto. I would love for him to do a Magneto Origin movie. Stupid Battlestar Gallactica.

How many projects has he been rumored for? Whatever happened to that film with Marc Whalberg...I believe it's called Prisoners. It's basically rip-off of Taken...which wasn't that great.

He was just rumored for Battlestar Gallactica and a fourth X-Men/Magento film, too.

I love Bryan Singer, but he needs to get his projects straightened out.
