Bryan Singer Talks More X-Men: First Class

Bryan Singer drops some major plot details about the next X-Men adventure
The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog chatted with Bryan Singer who recently confirmed he will direct X-Men: First Class. Singer will likely shoot Jack the Giant Killer first, but he confirmed that screenwriter Jamie Moss is working on the screenplay for the next installment in the X-Men franchise.

About the plot, Singer said:

"It's secret. But it's basically about the formation of the X-Men. How they began and the relationship between a young Xavier and a young Magneto.

This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust.

But, I don't see an exhaustion. The X-Men universe is boundless. These are great characters. And as young characters, they are quite different than the characters we have seen in the contemporary movies.

Singer also describes the supposed studio skirmish about his X-Men: The Last Stand exit as "comical and exaggerated", and also says that Jack the Giant Killer will likely be his next project, possibly in 3D, as the filmmaker found Avatar inspiring.

X-Men: First Class was released June 3rd, 2011 and stars James McAvoy, Laurence Belcher, Michael Fassbender, Bill Milner, Kevin Bacon, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Beth Goddard. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn.

Ah yes, Bret Ratner, the genius behind the Rush Hour Trilogy.

i think you meant Bret Ratner for X3. No harm done, he's a no talent bruckheimer wannabe anyway. You are right about X3, it was spread so thin, it's Dead on arrival.
As for McG, he was on my sh*tlist until he surpised me with TERMINATOR SALVATION. Considering this is the guy who only had CHARLIE'S ANGELS to his credit, i expected far worse. For a flawed movie, TS was a good relaunch on a new installment to the series.

As for SUPERMAN RETURNS, had far more flaws the an mute Kal Penn. It just didn't have any punch, not to mention making Superman a bastard father of a superson. Where could they possibly go from here? Singer, again, lacked courage to do something different. Regurgitated the same story from S2. No supervillian took away any real threat. If you can call Lex trying to make a realestate deal on a terrain good enough for mountain goats!

One thing we can both agree one, hope Singer gets his act together fast. But i honestly feel ALL X-men movies will suffer till they come back to MARVEL. Just look at the unspeakable crap which is WOLVERINE. You check out my detail review on my site...

Still havent seen apt pupil. Not much for nazi themed flicks, but I doubt it was any sort of sympathetic view. Usual Suspects is top 5 all time for me...
Very true, some sections of x1 and x2 are tough to watch in hindsight (Like Sabretooth in X1, and Cyclops trying to cry at the end of x2, it's like james marsden was having a tugg speedman moment), and supposedly singer wasnt getting along w/ Halle Berry between takes during x2. Personally, Storm should have a more expanded role as she is a Goddess and everything in the comics, not just in real life (I also give berry big props for coming out and telling fans 2 demand a 4th xmen, even tho she prolly wont be in it.)
That said, Singer was so good at developing individuals within a large cast you really can't sh*t on those 2 movies. That's where mcG lost w/ x3. He tried to establish 20 dif characters in between a bastardized phoenix saga...
I also really hope b.singer still has his mojo. Superman wasn't terrible, but Kumar trying to break out of his typecasting really hurt the aesthetic feel of that movie for me. The opening plane-save scene is undeniable however.
Illuminati, everything u said about x1 paving the way for spidey is very true. It was truly groundbreaking, due to hollywood finally having the effects+budget adequate enough to keep up w/ a grown up comic movie adaptation circa 2000. Dont forget this also made it ten times easier for Frank Miller's resurgence w/ 300 and Sin City. Or basically Zack Snyder's career w/ watchmen and 300.

Singer is a good director, not without flaws but good none the less. APT PUPIL, USUAL SUSPECTS were 2 great films.
X MEN 1, was the first of it's kind. till then the studio's & distributors never considered that comic films could be more than just kiddie cartoon crap. He elevated the concept to an adult genre without leaving the kids out.
if not for XMEN 1 SONY would never have invested in SPIDEY 1. The success of XMEN made writers believe that adult comic films are possible, and made studios believe that they were profitable.

X1 & X2 had flaws but atleast they were very much character driven. He brought great empathy of the 'mutant' condition reflected the race/religion/ethnicity issues in the real world. This made the NON-COMIC audience quickly relate to the characters.

I will not defend X3, it was overloaded with characters & storylines pushed by the producers and it was an utter mess. Singer has simply lost his mojo, his creativity. This is clear with the wasted chance of SUPERMAN RETURNS.
I don't have too much hope for FIRST CLASS either, but let's hope the man has found his muse!

Great... More Bryan Singer, X-Men BS where he doesn't really tell us anything about the movie but makes it seem like he will. I can't wait for this headline and caption... Bryan Singer Sits In A Chair Thinking About X-Men - The Director to Open His Mouth as Soon as He Can.

Before Singer, there wasnt a director w/ the balls to touch an xmen movie. Maybe u dont remember, but before 2000 there werent any Marvel movies to watch. Have u seen the "Usual Suspects"? Cus if ure sh*tting on Singer while giving Roth props I doubt uve seen Singer's prior work...
What has Roth done the last 5 years besides get 'the cell' canceled, have supporting roles in q.tarantino films, and appear on countless interviews pretending he is a knowledgeable movie afficianado? Tell me if that man has done anything since he made those kids get the flesh eating disease. DOnt u dare mention Hostel either.
