Bryan Singer Not Directing X-Men: First Class?

Bryan Singer not directing X-Men: First Class?
It was reported earlier in the week that Bryan Singer, director of the first two X-Men films, was gearing up to direct the next installment in the franchise X-Men: First Class. But now Hitfix is claiming that 20th Century Fox is actively searching for another director to take over the film. And that two other big names have already been approached about helming the project.

While the two directors weren't disclosed, it is known that they were fairly well known in the comic adaptation world. Both have passed, and the studio is continuing to look for someone worthy of the franchise. According to Hitfix, this would definitely indicate that Singer will not be free to direct the film himself. Fox has a timetable in place for when they want X-Men: First Class to be shot, and it does not coincide with Singer's current in-production schedule for Jack the Giant Killer. It is unlikely that he would drop out of that film at this time, since he is deep into the preproduction process on that adventure fantasy.

This new report indicates that Singer would not be able to return to the franchise until work on X-Men 4 begins, which would bring back the original cast. Though these are all just rumors. Nothing is set in stone at this point in time. We will keep you updated as more news on this story breaks.

Umm...because this is a movie gossip/news site. Every movie site prints rumors; it's the only way to not look like they're out of the loop.

Oh I all most forgot, Hitman is getting a second film. It's in pre- production as we speak.

if it is a rumor than why print it in the first place. Rumors and old news shouldn't be refreshed or released, wait for six months or if in doubt don't print it.
Just look at Cap, nothing is set in stone so why print it. Just wait until they pick the right guy takes the part, and have hard facts about any film.
There is no point in printing if it isn't true.

OMG, IF this is true... another poorly X-Men movie will be on the works.... could this studio wait a little just so the right people can make their films? I know they need to make a film to not lose the right but still, you want to make a quality film that keeps the franchise alive

X'D get rid of Fox... in a perfect world that might work.... but if Fox is out, Disney is in, and that's even worse

I really hope singer comes back for this one or xmen 4. I too enjoy his films, and although superman returns could have been much better, i thought it was a fun movie, although i wasnt happy with some plot vices. But xmen was one of the first superhero movies that took itself really serious, and thought singer captured the comics in a very viable reality.

serial killer: just so you know... the usual suspects is a great film, definately worth a rental if not a purchase :)

Well, I'm disappointed. Bryan Singer is one of my favorite directors, and I'm shocked that he's not going to be directing "X-Men: First Class." I actually have not seen "The Usual Suspects" yet, but I loved his "X-Men" movies, I liked and enjoyed "Superman Returns," and I loved "Valkyrie." So I wonder who else will direct this new upcoming project?

WTF Wasn't it just yesterday when there was a news article posted about Bryan Singer and Lauren Shuler-Donner discussing X-Men: First Class? WTF See this is why MovieWeb is not a reliable source AT ALL.

Shame, but if he comes back for X4, it would be worth it. Here's hoping they actually call it Xmen 3 and write off the Last Stand like they did with Superman 3 and 4.
